womens rights

Yesterday, representatives from women’s organizations, social justice groups and labour unions held a press conference
to denounce the Harper government’s record on women’s rights and
accused the Conservatives of seeking to undermine access to abortion
“by stealth.”

On Sunday, women will be holding rallies across Canada to tell
election candidates not to “play with women’s rights.” Here’s a excerpt
from their statement:

Before the federal election campaign began, a series of private
member’s bills were introduced that sought to chip away at a woman’s
right to choose. Last spring, all of the Conservative MPs (except four)
voted in support of Bill C-484, the Unborn Victims of Crime Act, which
would have moved us toward the re-criminalization of abortion.

What did the Conservatives do in response?

They proposed dead-end solutions to violence against women.
They did not protect women’s right to access to quality public abortion services

On Sunday, September 28, defend women’s equality and reproductive rights! Educate, lobby, mobilize and demonstrate.
