Days of action for students (drop tuition, forgive debt) and labour (Caterpillar) in Canada as #Occupy Oakland attempts, unsuccessfully, to take an abandoned convention hall to use as a social space and for lodging. The vicious attack by the police in Oakland sparked continent-wide solidarity actions. We also look into more #deportkenney news, and the continuing and mounting disrespect from settler states towards Indigenous peoples through ignoring historic treaties.

Closing the door on refugees from Mexico

Journalist Karla Garcia Ramirez fled Mexico after getting death threats after blowing the whistle on government corruption. Despite this, she was turned down for refugee status. Refugee advocates fear that the Harper government is planning to put Mexico on a "white list" and declare it a safe country, with disastrous consequences for any Mexicans claiming refugee status in Canada. Rick Goldman is co-ordinator of the Committee to Aid Refugees in Montreal.

People's Commission launches campaign against CSIS
