Get this, a Tory MLA is holding a contest to pick the Greatest Canadian political figure in an internet poll. http://www.timhudak.ca/great-dominion-dust

It works like a sports playoff - each day there are different one-on-on matches, then the winners compete, and so on and so on.

Who care about how it works lets send them a message. All day Monday Eastern time zone, one of the contests pits hero LOUIS RIEL against failed Tory hack KIM CAMPBELL.

Voting is free voting is anonymous voting doesn't make you register. You can vote for Riel from soon after midnite until 11:59 PM or 2359 Monday the 19 March EastERN time.

All you have to do is visit: http://www.timhudak.ca/great-dominion-dust

Voting in this poll is not heavy. It only take a few numbers to win the whole thing ... Let's start tomorrow by voting LOUIS RIEL (1844-1885) and hoist the tories on their own petard.

By 4 votes to 24 votes. This should be easy.

Knowles is still under 30 votes behind. There doesnot even seem to be a counter to prevent multiple voting just use internet options to erase cookies.

I don't see an option for where to vote - just the voting results.

Just click under Current Matchups in the middle of the page.

Since it's the site of a Tory candiditate, the only thing that was surpising was that Douglas won. And then look at the results

3 votes for Douglas
2 votes for Crerar

Dividing the vote between a democratic socialist and an eventual Liberal.

I *did* but when I go to a page it just tells me what the count is. I can't find an actual ballot.

When I went back after voting that's all I got too. Maybe the software thinks you already voted.

I cant explain that. I tried to ""test"" a second vote and it wouldnt take, but the 1st one did.

The Sunday votes went to the far right (Parson Manning + Harris) so maybe they figured how to vote more than 1x.

But Monday is a new contest and we can show them. RIEL is already ahead of Kim Campbell 2-0. We can win this thing if we have the numbers. There were no more than 70 farright voters (generosly assumed no duplicates) We can do far better than that.

Anybody know how this guy came up with each particular match-up?

He has people who served in different centuries going up against each other, people in the different levels of political office against each other, people in the same party against each other...there just doesn't seem to be any logic in any of this that I can see.

it appears that if you leave, then later on reload the site, use the link etc eventually there is a little poll made available where you can vote... it seems ridiculous to go to the trouble, but Riel is ahead in this one ... Go Louis Riel!

btw, I noticed that this MLA has a "Two Minute Hit" feature on his site.

Was I the only person who first read that as "Two Minutes Hate"?

Greetings,

Just to keep you folks updated, Louis Riel won his first round matchup and will meet Nellie McClung in the second round. Polls on the Riel-McClung pairing will be open for March 27 and 28. Be sure to cast your votes (www.timhudak.ca/great-dominion-dust) and check out the other pairings while you're at it.

Sincerely,

Tim Hudak, MPP

To be clear Nellie was a fierce proponent of eugenics. She pushed for and was succesful in getting laws passed that were used to sterilize both disabled and non-disabled people. That was an outrageous and despicable act no matter who it was done to.

And since this is the aboriginal forum it should be noted that the law was used to sterilize a disproportinate number of aboriginal and metis women.

quote: Three of the Famous Five advocated for sterilization of some persons. Emily Murphy travelled throughout British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan and delivered more than 100 speeches supporting laws for forced sterilization. Murphy, along with McClung, a novelist and legislator, and McKinney, the first woman sworn into the Alberta Legislature, were all instrumental in the Alberta Sexual Sterilization Act adopted in 1928. Until 1972, the Alberta government made applications to the provincial court for the forced sterilization of 4,725 Albertans (2,882 were actually authorized). Most of the sterilizations were done to young women under the age of 25. Some as young as 14 had surgical procedures to ensure that they could never sexually reproduce. Native persons and Metis comprised only 2.5 per cent of Alberta's population, but accounted for 25 per cent of Alberta's sterilization procedures.

Ottawa XPress

I will be voting for Louis although I would rather vote for Gabriel.

We R realy making progress. LOUIS RIEL is just 3 wins away from winning the poll for GREATEST CANADIAN POLITICIAN. http://www.timhudak.ca/great-dominion-dust

We are getting closer but need your help. The last three rounds are key.

1. Because he won last night Riel is not active in the voting today and Friday

2. all day Saturday and Sunday ONTARIO time, until 1159 PM or 23h59, vote RIEL to win the Western region

3. then all day Monday and Tuesday, until 23h59 ONTario time, vote RIEL to win the Western/Quebec conference

4. the National final will be all day Wedensdya and Thursday until 23h59 Ontario time: vote LOUIS DAVID RIEL as greatest politician in Canada history

Heres the delicious irony. In the final RIEL is almost certain to be up against John A MacDonald; the DWEM or Dead White European Male who killed had him killed.

Avenge LOUISE RIEL. Avenge our ancestors. Avenge us. Vote him the greatest Canadian politician and send the Torys a message. http://www.timhudak.ca/great-dominion-dust

Fun diversion but I think its rather late to save old Louis. Besides, Gabriel Dumont was the superior leader most ways.

OK here we goes.

Voting is open in Round 4. Here's the link to vote for LOUIS RIEL:
http://www.timhudak.ca/west-round-4-louis-riel-vs-allan-blakeney

The only mistake I made above is that voting in Round 4 closes Tuesday at 11:59 EASTERN time zone. Then Round 5 - semi final - lasts 4 days at least not 2.

So spread the word - http://www.timhudak.ca/west-round-4-louis-riel-vs-allan-blakeney

Just 3 rounds from making LOUIS RIEL the greatest Canadian politician EVER.

I think Canadians should hang John A. McDonald in effigy once a year.

I'm not sure why you want to send Torys a message. As a rule, we rather like Riel.

It's the Libs who don't like his kind of thinking.

Sure, and the Liberals were elected on anti-Mulroney FTA and anti-GST platforms too.

I think Louis Riel vs. Tommy Douglas was a hard choice.

But I sure woulda booted out Sir John A in the first round. Its not appropriate for him to get this far.

Definitely Ed Broadbent deserved to win over John A. Mcdonald.

I'm not sure I would have picked Louis Riel over Tommy Douglas either. What were Louis Riel's politics like other than that he stood up against Canadian Imperialism in the west. Was he substantively on the left on other issues?

So that's why you hung him. Trying to give him the push of martyrdom.

Because it is a Tory site ... need more non-tories to vote ... especially when it comes to the showdown between Riel and MacDonald!
