DUMB GEORGE BUSH WOOS NUMB CANADIANS IN CALGARY – Splitting the Sky jailed for trying to “citizen arrest” this war criminal!

MNN.  Mar. 18, 2009.  Former U.S. President, George W. Bush, was in Calgary with “cowboy” hat in hand on March 17 to seek the affection of the men and women attending the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association meeting CEPA.  It was sponsored by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and law firms Ernst and Young and Bennett Jones.  1,300 corporate business types paid $400 a plate.  One Bush fan cooed, “He must be intelligent to be so witty”.  Doesn’t he know that a team of speech writers carefully crafted every word he said?

Bush came to “Texas North”, as Calgary is called, to help his international andAmerican cohorts scoop out more Indigenous resources such as water, gas and oil.  He wants the corporations to stay in private hands so they can grab 6 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas; 950 million barrels of liquid hydrocarbons; lay 100,000 km. of pipe over our territory; and pocket $67 billion from exports of our resources while polluting all our territories and waters.

His topic appeared to be “Listen to George Bush on how to destroy and bankrupt countries, businesses and the people”.  The enthralled audience heaped praise on this braggart who demolished countries through brutal wars, killing millions, doing away with civil liberties, breaking international laws, circumventing the Geneva accords and tearing down the global economy.  He and his friends know how to take the cream when the economy melts down and the taxpayers are left holding the bag.

Gale Davidson of Lawyers Against the War of Vancouver crafted a legal position that under Canadian law Bush could be arrested for being a suspected war criminal.

Over 700 protesters stood outside the Telus Convention Center.  75 heavily armed, especially bulky, RCMP and private “Blackwater-type” security were there to guard Bush.  They pointed guns at the crowd.   Who knows how many others were in the crowd, on the rooftops, maybe even behind cameras and in the sky?    Splitting the Sky, a Mohawk from Six Nations, evoked international law by asking the RCMP to arrest Bush.  They refused.  He told them, “I am serving you notice that you are protecting a war criminal and an international terrorist.  You can be tried, convicted and executed as a collaborator before a Nuremberg-type tribunal”.

At the same time he tried to deliver a letter from Ramsay Clark, the former U.S. attorney general, who supports the broad coalition of peace, human rights, labor, law, environmental and other organizations that are seeking U.S. prosecution for Bush’s crimes. The U.S. people are responsible for Bush’s crimes against peace and humanity by failing to stop him.  There is universal jurisdiction over such crimes, mentioning especially the crimes of aggression in Afghanistan and Iraq.  [Bush’s Calgary rally to business interests will continue the usurpation of our resources and the environment.]  Bush proclaimed himself to be the “decider” by seizing dictatorial powers.  He deceitfully declared that national security was threatened and signed into law many unconstitutional Acts of Congress.  He enriched favored corrupt predators by giving to them contracts for security services, war relief and reconstruction.  At home mortgage lenders, banks, insurance companies and corporate executives exploited Bush policies to enrich the rich.  He radically increased the national war debt and military spending which led to the collapse of the global economy.  Corrupt Bush appointees committed crimes in various Executive Departments, including the Bureau of Indian Affairs in the Department of the Interior.

Splitting the Sky broke through the police line and advanced alone to arrest George Bush.  He got 2 to 3 feet into the Center.  He pushed his way through the police line with his hands over his head yelling, “I am not touching anyone”.  They surrounded and pounced on him.  He was brutalized, arrested and beaten over and over again in the police van and jail cell.  He was kept for 24 hours and released on $500 bail.  He sustained serious bodily injuries, including a partial concussion and a massive hernia.

Splitting the Sky is charged with three counts of assault and obstruction of justice.  He must return to Calgary court on March 25th  at 9:30 a.m.   He plans to launch a legal campaign to indict the RCMP, Mayor of Calgary and others for complicity in war crimes for allowing Bush to enter without arresting him.  These “banksters” better remember that all these resources they plan to steal and destroy are going to be defended by the Indigenous caretakers and our supporters.  [Contact splitting_the_sky@yahoo.com or www.splittingthesky.blogspot.com; Lawyers Against the war law@portal.ca; Calgary Defence Tavis Ford 403-606-7034].

I just saw this, Stargazer, and wanted to comment to bump it onto tat again.

What a courageous man, doing what he did, knowing that he'd be singled out, arrested, beaten and harassed, insisting, and taking up space to speak the truth.

GWB is a fucking war criminal.

Yay to Splitting the Sky! Wishing him healing thoughts as he recovers from injuries caused by the brutal policing of the state's bottom line.

Cynthia McKinney War Crimes Speech Part 1

http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/node/47554

"Cynthia McKinney applauds Mohawk activist Splitting the Sky for his courageous effort in Calgary Canada to arrest George Bush for his criminal activities. Now he faces six months in jail for attempting to arrest Bush..."

[he also faces a frosty and studied indifference from the domestic mainstream anti-war movement who has refused to let him speak at their functions due to his '911 Truth' affiliation. Apparently theirs is an exclusive affair with entry requirements above and beyond STS - no wonder they don't draw much of a crowd...]

Hi Stargazer,

I live in Calgary and I keep up with the news and this is the first I heard of Splitting the Sky's actions.
It was likely given very little coverage if any at all.  The quote below may have something to do with it.

"They surrounded and pounced on him.  He was brutalized, arrested and beaten over and over again in the police van and jail cell...
...He [Splitting the Sky] sustained serious bodily injuries, including a partial concussion and a massive hernia. "

They may have also wanted to keep quiet the fact that they welcomed a known war criminal to this city with open arms where he was treated as if he was a saint incarnate.

His Calgary trial is in early March. The Crown is goin to move a motion excluding any mention of Bush's war crimes and hence STS's defence which is essentially that it was a duty, in the absence of action from the Canadian authorities, to arrest this 'credibly suspected' war criminal. As is usually the way with such things in KKKanaduh there has been little support or awareness of the case.

There is more information on Splitting the Sky's blog.

Splitting the Sky was charged with Obstruction of justice, for his attempted citizen's arrest of 'credibly suspected' war criminal George W Bush. He now faces a 6 month jail sentence and $5000 dollar fine. There has been a media blackout of this matter, including by CBC. Please advise all who may be interested that his trial begins in Calgary on Monday March 8 at 10:00 AM. He will be defended by Lawyers Against War.

There will be a rally prior to the trial, at 9:00 AM on Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Calgary Court House, 601 5th Street, South West.

Please advise all who may be able to attend and/or support, as well as media that this is happening and should be covered

Thanks for that information.

Like I mentioned I live in Calgary and I didn't hear a thing about it on the news or in the papers.

I'll be taking that day off work to be there and I've still got some time to print up and distribute some flyers.

The media black-out is evidence of the corruption he is fighting.

No surprise that there's practically zero awareness - such things do not find favour with all sorts of people you might think should..

It didn't help that the NDP was completely terrified by the approach made to them by Lawyers Against War, before Bush's visit -  seeking their assistance in addressing the government and RCMP refusal to implement their own settled and binding war crimes'legislation compelling them to either refuse Bush entry or hold him pending an investigation. Jack Layton's office stated baldly they would entertain no further correspondence on the subject. They're terrified of the issue and won't touch it. Not much from other political formations either sad to say - apparently the man's a 911 truther and proud of it too - which tends to frighten off most of the mainstream Canadian 'progressive' ahem community as well...you know how it is here.

So ..yes please do go support and be there LWB and urge as many others as can go to do so also.  While such things are still possible. Sounds like a good, grassroots real-deal thing.

I've been a personal friend of STS and his family for going on a decade or so and this courageous act on his part to do what no official government agency had the integrity or courage to do is very typical of the man.

Readers might also recall that Dac (STS) was also one of the prime organizers in the 1996 Gustofsen Lake stand-off in south central B.C. when the Canadian military and the RCMP went into overkill mode in order to bust up a group of indigenous Sundancers near 100 Mile House. Along with Wolverine they were able to expose the serious government agents and their agenda regarding native sovereignty and title to unceded territories within B.C.

Dac (STS) is also a well known native American activist who ended up deeply involved in the Attica Prison riots in NY state back in the mid-70s. As the only prisoner at the time charged with having murdered a prison guard during the riots he was eventually released and found innocent thanks to his superb lawyer Mr. Ramsay Clark. After marrying his Canadian bride Dac moved to Canada.

Dac deserves to be heard and the censorship of his case by the msm is only further proof of the rotten, corrupt state of the msm in Canada. He's one of the most vibrant and commanding orators of this day and that is why the powers that be don't want the people of Canada listening to him.

Please contribute to his efforts. He has a wonderful family to support while all this deceit and hypocrisy is going down.

Citizen's Arrest of George Bush Justified, Court Hears

http://www.calgarysun.com/news/alberta/2010/03/08/13159991.html

Political activist John Boncore [Splitting the Sky] was entitled to try to arrest US President George W Bush for war crimes, his lawyer told a Calgary court Monday. Defence counsel Charles Davison said his client's attempts at breaching a police barrier to gain access to Bush were justified.

Boncore is charged with obstructing a peace officer for repeatedly trying to get past security and into the Telus Convention Centre last March 17. Mr. Boncore had reasonable grounds to attempt to do what he said to the police he wanted to do," Davison told provincial court Judge Manfred Delong. "And that was to carry out a citizen's arrest of George Bush," the lawyer said.

Davison said he will present evidence, including a documentary entitled Taxi to the Dark Side, which details the torture and murder of an innocent Afghan cabbie to support Boncore's claim. Davison said a group called Lawyers Against the War, had urged the RCMP to arrest George Bush for crimes against humanity if he stepped on Canadian soil.

That group asserted Bush was 'inadmissable to Canada' as a suspected war criminal and said the former US president should not be allowed into our country. If he was deemed a suspected war criminal Bush would be disentitled to enter Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and would be breaking the law if he came here, Davison said.

As a result, Boncore was entitled to make a citizen's arrest since a crime was being committed.

Thanks for posting that.  It seemed like there was a complete media black out because the only mainstream media that was there was CityTV and I didn't see anything about the trial there or anywhere else.

They were shooting footage outside the courthouse but I doubted they wiould actually air it.  Oh yeah and CBC Radio was there too.

Another group was holding a rally outside the courthouse for a church group that was being charged for feeding the homeless on public property.  That's pretty corrupt too.

So there was a bit of confusion from passersby about what was going on.

The cops of course questioned what we were doing there.  They knew they couldn't force us to leave and they didn't.  But they did huddle together for several minutes debating about something.

There were about seven people with signs in support of STS and there were 7 police.

The trial's lack of widespread media coverage becomes a hugely central issue now doesn't it? I mean, this is the first time this is happening to Bush as an internationally and credibly suspected war criminal of the highest order, so what the hey, the lack of mainstream media coverage has in many ways to be equally as disturbing as the acts of the Bush-Cheney administration's war cabinet on the level of complicity=media censorship.

I wrote to CBC's Umbudsman, Mr. Carlin, who let me know that he had forwarded info on the trial to all of CBC's heads of programming, so again, WHAT THE HEY! Does it say that they actually do not think that this is a newsworthy event to be covered? But in that case, can anything else taking place on this continent this week seriously be considered as being anywhere nearly as equally significant to society?

+ any ideas on how to get the story=coverage of the trial, at the very least what it is about, published fare & wide? This trial should have already received blanket coverage by all media outlets, at least a significant mention. Who else is becoming deeply suspicious and concerned that something far more proactive will have to be done in solidarity about this?

I would have thought so too Netsia..

well if everyone reading this forwards the info to their circle of contacts: unions, church groups, social justice organizations, (just for fun their MPs), Council of Canadians, etc etc...maybe someone other than the Calgary Sun might do something on it.

I do notice that there's a bit of action in the blogosphere on it. Perhaps with people like ex US AG Ramsey Clark and Cynthia McKinney coming things will heat up a bit.

Some might  think the NDP would be interested but Jack Layton's office already advised Lawyers Against War that he would "entertain no further correspondence" on their requests for his help in having the pertinent legislation addressed prior to Bush's visit last year. No votes in it I guess.

Maybe I'll try Fox News..;)

I expected as much from CBC but I though for sure APTN (Aboriginal People's Television Network) would report on it.
Because of my assumption I didn't attempt to contact them until now.  If they are unwilling to report on this due to a media ban it is a clear indication of how deep this corruption runs.  APTN does have a large audience (estimated at far over 500,000) and would be worth getting the attention of.
As it stands they can claim ignorance even with a single email from me - they can simply say it must have been lost.
But surely they cannot deny losing emails from a dozen different people on the same topic.
If anyone has an extra few minutes please email them.  Below is the email I sent them.  Feel free to copy and paste it or better yet elaborate and send them other details of the case.  I kept it brief so it wouldn't be ignored by a lazy producer.

APTN email

"I was very surprised to discover that APTN is among the many media that has not or will not report anything regarding the Mohawk man who happens to be the only person in the world that attempted to perform a LEGAL citizens arrest on Former President Bush.  He has support from people all over the world including Lawyers Against War and a former congresswoman.

Thanks, lonewolfbunn, for that! I also wrote APTN, as has a committed core group of Dac's supporters. I've been trying to think up how to define an effective point system to follow, and you've also now given me an idea-inspiration on this, to focus a campaign on breaking through the apparent mainstream media blackout by focusing all greass-roots communications resources on one & ya I think APTN makes a good choice! I'm gonna send them another letter too & start alerting my circle on this idea & I hope everyone else will as well, start it rolling & coax it along so it snowballs!!!!!

Cool. Now that Harper has allegations of war crimes against him concerning the Torturegate conspiracy, it can only be a matter of time before citizen patriots attempt lawful citizens' arrests of him.

There's no need for sarcasm, Netsia.  You didn't mention APTN.

So what was their response, if any?

[Edit deleted comment when I realized Netsia wasn't being sarcastic]

My thought was that there would be a more realistic chance of APTN covering it than Fox News.

'Realism' in my estimation is that we the people are who will be making the changes to how media is managed, openly, un-bias-ed-ly!!

- This morning have news as well that the trial in Calgary {my removing the quotation marks from around colonial place naming now, can be taken as an indication that I've figuratively 'taken the gloves off'!} has had its proceedings cancelled?!

- And, Dac's possible jail time was somehow also raised from 6 months to 2 years!

All of which I find highly amusing now, as this gives me ample reson & right to become creative on Dac's behalf.

P.s. I am virtually never sarcastic nor facetious & when I am it comes across as blazingly apparent. Cynicism can be a bit different in these very cynical times but there too I am always careful to highlight the contextual reasons for... just so you know!...

how can media be managed openly and unbiasedly when so many have no skills in computer media ?

i guess people can only participate by writing on blogs like babble to.

maybe that's what you're talking about.

All of which I find highly amusing now, as this gives me ample reson & right to become creative on Dac's behalf.

The corruption in this case sure has esculated.  I think the are openly being corrupt because the think no one knows because of the media ban.

Of that they are wrong.  They may be able to ban Canadian media but they cannot prevent the rest of the world from knowing the truth.

Bush League Justice: Splitting the Sky Case Shut Down

http://truthjihad.blogspot.com/2010/03/splitting-sky-case-shut-down-inte...

"Judge Manfred Delong shut down the trial of STS vs George W Bush on the second day of proceedings. Delong will deliver his ruling on June 7..."

The court excluded important testimony to come including Russel Tribunal Member , ex US Congresswoman and Gaza activist, Cynthia McKinney who arrived in Calgary last night and was prepared to testify. Clearly the 5 days set down for trial, was truncated to preempt any possibility of building awareness around the issue of war crimes. Calgary is of course the constituency of Stephen Harper, himself implicated in the Afghan detainee issue and torture of Afghan prisoners of war.

I am suggesting that when this thread reaches the 100 post mark and is closed due to length that if someone starts part 2 before I do that it be put in another category.
One reason being that some people justifiably do not want to participate in a thread in the Aboriginal Issues section because they may have seen people being called racist the minute they disagree with a certain poster.  It's happened enough that I don't even have to mention the posters name.

Another reason is, that just because Dacajeweiah (Splitting the Sky) happens to be Aboriginal doesn't make his struggle merely an Aboriginal issue.  His struggle is about defending human rights in countries all over the world.  It is therefore an International issue.

The fact that judge Manfred Delong (who denied STS a fair trial by refusing to allow him the right to provide testimony from witnesses) is a Canadian in a Canadian Court, makes it at the very least a National issue.

actually it's probably better characterized as an 'International' story..

What about writing an article about this for Rabble, lonewolfbunn?  I think there are probably many people who read rabble but don't make their way to babble.

I wasn't aware that was an option.  I assumed they had a select list of writers.  I also wonder if an article being too opinionated would be a problem.  I'll have to look into it.
If I do write about this case it would include what I wrote below:

If someone mentioned a trial in which the accused was denied the basic right to provide expert testimony in his defense and then the potential sentence was increased four-fold because the accused wouldn't plead guilty, it would likely be assumed it happened in a Fascist country.
Most people would be surprised to hear that it happened in Canada.
Unfortunately most people haven't heard about it because there is a countrywide media-ban on the case, which is another demonstration of corruption in the case against Splitting the Sky-John Boncore.

...[Details of the case to be added]

...There is a special brand of justice reserved for those who dare to make a stand against tyranny.
It has long been known that in Canada the Hammer of Justice pounds the hardest on those without high priced lawyers.

Now the Canadian Justice system is demonstrating that there is an even more jagged and heavy Hammer of Justice reserved for corruption fighters regardless of their lawyer.

...[More details]

The day that people such as John Boncore stop fighting against corruption and genocide and risk losing their freedom to protect ours is the day that we are closer to a world ruled by Marshall Law.

Go for it LWB. I'm surprised that Rabble didn't  run one of the several pieces already circulating - surely it is significant and of interest to progressives. Has Rabble chosen to support the media blackout? Are they somehow opposed to this issue of accountability and war crimes?  What gives I wonder?

I'm seconding & thirding the others LWB, go for it, definitely!Smile!Smile!Smile

You can publish it at the media-coop site for one, then have your article published at the Dominion & likely Rabble as well & we can circulate it globally too, then! Definitely do create your own article, there is a lot a lot a lot to this...

I do kind of agree about considering this thread being in another category because it does transcend aboriginal issues. To me it seems to be about Peace & War in the largest sense of what Dac's initiative is taking on, demanding that Canadian Laws be upheld-enforced to arrest criminal war profiteers credibly accused of the highest war crimes and crimes against humanity, and doing so as a Citizen, not as a sovereign first nation person!...

Here are U-Tube links, these are fresh from the Symposium held this past Tuesday at the University of Calgary, with Dac-STS, Cynthia McKinney and Anthony Hall leading a citizen's process-forum to begin establishing the 'Calgary Principles' engaing all of us in the beginning of what our collective future will be, :

Good question.

But anyvey, below is the article I have posted on newsvine.com and will be posting on media sites that have chosen to not obey the ILLEGAL media ban.  I decided to remove my opinion on this matter as I believe the bare facts speak for themselves.

-

March 17 2009, in Calgary Alberta, Splitting the Sky, a Mohawk from Six Nations, acted on international law and instructed the RCMP to arrest George W. Bush.  When they refused he told them, “I am serving you notice that you are protecting a war criminal and an international terrorist.  You can be tried, convicted and executed as a collaborator before a Nuremberg-type tribunal”.

Splitting the Sky, separated from the 700 protesters broke through the police line carrying a letter from Ramsay Clark (the former U.S. attorney general, who supports the broad coalition of organizations that are seeking U.S. prosecution for Bush’s crimes) and advanced alone to arrest George W. Bush.  The police surrounded him and knocked him to the ground.  After he was handcuffed in the police van, Calgary police assualted him resulting in serious bodily injuries, including a partial concussion and a massive hernia.

Splitting the Sky-John Boncore's actions were perfectly legal based on the 'Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act'.  He was also acting on Canadian Law which states:
Canadian Law prohibits “people suspected of any involvement in torture or other war crimes and crimes against humanity from entering Canada for any period and for any purpose. The most recent report of the War Crimes Program affirms the necessity of barring war crimes suspects from Canada: ‘The most effective way to deny safe haven to people involved or complicit in war crimes or crimes against humanity is to prevent them from coming to Canada.’”

He has the support of Cynthia McKinney, former Congresswoman; Lawyers Against the War; and professors such as Anthony Hall.

His trial began on March 8, 2010 but on the 2nd day[edit] when former congresswoman Cynthia McKinney arrived to testify on his behalf Judge Manfred Delong suddenly cancelled the trial and will deliver his ruling on June 7th.  Judge Delong also increased his potential sentence from the original sentence of 6 months for 'obstruction of justice' to 2 years [for obstruction of corruption].

If someone mentioned a trial in which the accused was denied the basic right to provide witness testimony in his defense and then the potential sentence was increased four-fold because the accused wouldn't plead guilty, it would likely be assumed it happened in a Fascist country.
Many people would be surprised to hear that it happened in Canada.
Unfortunately most people haven't heard about it because there is a countrywide media-ban on the case, which is another demonstration of corruption in the case against Splitting the Sky-John Boncore.

You've got a lot, most if not all main points here from what I see. It does need some editing~shaping~ these are my takes: I would say it maybe could benefit by reading as a news story time line, give emphasis to the narrative flow, so that the court dates presided over by Judge Delong is recounted near the start, as exciting latest news, & March 2009 is given a whole subtiltled section for itself, to fully flesh out the background context; Oopsies too: Judge Manfred Delong ended the scheduled hearings after or at some point during the second day (I don't even know when he ended it exactly, would be good-nice to know that & if there is any more story context to that development too~ juicy stuff/legal stuff, etc.!) which was ahead of Cynthia's arriving in Calgary( Cynthia arrived Tuesday ~evening(?)), these kinds of details can develop the accuracy & then shape story intrigue with it...; I would encourage working up and fleshing out the article passages with your own opinion as well, to explore how to get the info across to readers with a unifying viewpoint, which you can still decide to maintain as an objective viewpoint; & It would be good if you open with giving the date on which you finish writing it, with your name attached. I think this is important to have the article attributed to yourself & to be standing behind it & that this will make it more publishable!...

Never forget Wounded Knee

But always move forward in preventing new ones

"I have seen pictures of Wounded Knee - the dead mothers with their babies. And I remember my grandfather, Good Fox, telling me about the dead mother with a baby nursing at her cold breast, drinking that cold milk. My Lai was hot, and Wounded Knee was icy cold, and that's the only difference." - Lame Deer

Chief Big Foot, who was suffering terribly from pneumonia, was brought to Wounded Knee to ease tensions between the Union soldiers and the Indians. The massacre started when soldiers attempted to take the rifle from a deaf man. The man not understanding what was happening, resisted. The rifle went off. When the troops heard the shot, they opened fire into the camp. Breach loading Hotchkiss artillery that fired cased ammunition were among the weapons used against the nearly entirely disarmed Indians.

The massacre took place on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day, the living (including villagers from the agency) identified, photographed and began to inter the bodies. A light dusting of snow had fallen that morning.

Every time I see the frozen, snow covered body of Chief Big Foot, tears come to my eyes.

Bush arose on March 17, 2009 when Splitting the Sky attempted a citizens arrest of former U.S. President George W. Bush as he came to speak to oil executives and economic and political elites in Calgary, Canada on the grounds that George Bush stands credibly accused and internationally condemned for war crimes committed, during his reign, in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay as well as in numerous CIA black sites stationed around the world. As Commander-In-Chief of the United States military, George Bush meets the definition of both 'military commander' and superior' of the Crimes Against Humanity & War Crimes Act (2000) (sec 7) and thus should have been prevented from entering the country or arrested upon entry.  The court is expected to hand down a decision in this case on June 7, 2010.

I didn't know where to post this so I'll post this here. Everyone in Toronto at least is aware of the courage and support that Shawn Brant has shown. If any of you have added him as a friend on facebook, make sure it is really him. It appears that someone (largely suspected to be the police) has put up a fake profile, claiming to be Shawn Brant.

It is also suspected that the FB fake profile of Shawn's is being used to gather information on him and his supporters. Just a head's up.

One significant update for Dacajeweiah-Splitting The Sky, for his sentencing this June 7th in Calgary:

FORMER U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL RAMSEY CLARK, WHO IS ALSO LONG TIME LEGAL COUNSEL TO DAC, WILL BE IN CALGARY ON JUNE 6TH TO SPEAK TO THE ISSUE OF BUSH THE WAR CRIMINAL, (AND, WE CAN SPECULATE THE PROBLEM OF IMPUNITY BUSH HAS RECEIVED FROM CANADIAN LAW)AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY;

AND THEN ON JUNE 7TH, RAMSEY CLARK WILL ALSO BE ADDRESSING THE COURT BEFORE THE SENTENCING IS READ.

While I support th eintent of Splitting the Sky's actions, I do not know if the strategy was entirely sound. It seems like he went through a great deal of risk and harm (unfortunate yet unsurprising when bearing modern oppression techniques in mind), and achieved very little positive gain.

Of course, the collusion between media sources and the government has guaranteed a media blackout. This has had the consequence of reducing Splitting the Sky's noble actions into nothing more than an amusing byline for most Canadians. It would have been better if someone had found another way of raising the public awareness that is so necessary to our struggle. Those in power will ignore even the most heroic and truthful actions if they think they can get away with it, but it is much harder for the to operat ewith impunity if the people are mobilised and aware.

Not just "the collusion between the media sources and the government". When Lawyers Against War approached the NDP to advance the issue of 'credibly suspected' war criminal Bush being either refused entry to Canada or held pending investigation, as Canadian law requires, they were advised that Jack Layton's pffice  would "entertain no further correspondence on the issue".  As for the people being 'mobilized and aware' = this starts with persons like STS, you, me and anybody else who gets it, doing whatever they can - Go get em P-O-D..

What Dac has done and what he has been achieving is monumental, you should be aware that those formerly in power are rapidly losing ground to a wide range of new actors as well as forces in global media networks. Since this past March we've been pressing to have Dac profiled on APTN which is scheduled to happen now, and Al Jazeera-- I am not sure of any direct correlation & the few of us who were trying certainly wouldn't take any credit though it is just interesting that Al Jazeera has begun broad-casting here! So we should hope & press for that too.

And Dac has grass roots support, rock solid, as well as some of the most influential, that is to say the really powerful people behind him,

... NoDif, I'm not quite seeing how your "Not just" actually elaborates the group of complicit parties when the NDP are obviously the government?

(there's another background issue at work but I have to check the facts of association first!)...

Stargazer, I don't know what you mean by post the link? There is not a web-site associated with the art image. It was created by Edna Spennato for Dac personally! I thought I had filled in this info when I submitted it but it didn't show?

Netsia you're right - they're all in it together and as their actions indicate - won't oppose the trashing of the rule of law on this issue. I hope that the support is sufficent to elevate the issue of these US butchers' outrageous criminality, into the daylight of public opinion. STS's actions were very important in raising this issue and history will record this even if Canada is largely unaware or indifferent today.

www.lawyersagainstthewar.org/

Babblers could assist by alerting their media to the issue and the upcoming judgement of the Calgary court. Lots of us who do know what Dac did have great appreciation and admiration for him and his hardworking supporters. It's hard but critically important work and there's too few doing it.

Here the passage from Dacajeweiah's Autobiography that I wanted to insert as topically related background info of former BC NDP Attorney General {and Premier?} Ujjal Dosanjh, these days running with Canada's federal reds:

"During the Gustafsen Lake trial, prominent Ts'peten Defender, Wolverine (William Jones Ignace), cited the Royal Proclamation in his defence. The BC Court of Appeal held: "The Royal Proclamation has never applied to this Province, the appellants cannot rely upon the Royal Proclamation as support for their position." Contrarily, Patricia Margaret Hutchings in her law thesis argued that BC is within the geographic scope of the proclamation.

Ignoring the legal history, then New Democratic Party Attorney General of BC, Ujjal Dosanjh (now the Minister of Health in the Martin Liberal government), gave the RCMP sweeping powers to remove the Ts'peten Defenders from the land. In an overtly racist move, reminiscent of Canada's World War II persecution of Japanese-Canadians, Aboriginal police were exempted from participation in what was dubbed Operation Wallaby.

Canadian authorities rejected disinterested, independent, outside mediation to settle the dispute at Gustafsen Lake. Dosanjh railed against the possibility of outside observers: "There shall be no alien intervention into the affairs of this state." Of course, once the matter was in the open, it would have been most difficult to quash the legal arguments of the Indigenous people."

Just so we are all clear on the kind of scum who are behind the media black-out, etc.

Is An Attempted Citizen's Arrest of War Criminal George W Bush 'A Criminal Act'?

http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=19231

"How Judge Manfred Delong will be influenced by Ramsey Clark's arrival in Calgary is yet to be seen. The more citizens who mobilize in solidarity with STS the less able the state and their media accomplices will be to sweep the profound juridical questions being raised by STS, Ramsay Clark and others under the carpet. The proceedings are as follows;

Ramsey Clark arrives in Calgary, June 26, 2010, He will speak at the University of Calgary's Murray Fraser Hall, Room 164, 4:00 PM-6:30 PM

The Sentencing of Splitting the Sky commences on June 7, 2010 at the Calgary Courts Centre"

Please forward this info to your local media and urge they attend and report. If in Calgary come out and support.

[Quoting to share this excellent updated run through factoid of actions including statements directed to government officials to arrest Bush:]--

The world is in a dire situation where international meetings need to occur so global citizens can compare and contrast our various initiatives.

My understanding is that activated global citizens are taking up arms, so to speak, as they see the opportunity to do so.  It is “self-organizing” - - various initiatives not consciously coordinated, but which all work together.

To me it is important that people realize

-        the magnitude of the combined efforts to insist on the rule of law

-        the fact that these efforts are not going to stop:  it may take years but rest assured we do have power and we will exercise it.

-        In the end Bush, Blair and their thugs will be brought to trial.

I distributed the following chronology recently, to help illustrate that it will be done.  In case it may be useful to any of you, I forward to you.

Cheers,

Sandra

(1)    UPDATED CHRONOLOGY OF EFFORTS TO GET BUSH ARRESTED  (revised May 25, 2010)

The following highlights SOME of the efforts which are on-going through many organizations in the world.

-        2002: we vigorously joined with millions of people around the world calling on George Bush not to drop bombs on Iraq.  Information on the laws and the evidence was circulated.

-        March 2003: the U.S. started the Iraq War.  Then-Prime Minister Jean Chretien kept Canada out of the war.

-        October 2007:  “The Guantánamo Files” by Andy Worthington (UK) is published.  It is  “a must-read for anyone who wants to understand how Guantánamo came to be the torture chamber of the United States. This comprehensive and well-researched exposé reveals the stories of the many tragic men and boys who were picked up after 9/11 by, or at the direction of, the US government, and also clearly demonstrates the frightening and unchecked power of the Bush administration and the failures that have followed on from its miserable, inept and criminal policies. Perhaps most disturbing, from a personal point of view, is the author’s unraveling of the US government’s manipulation of classified information, not to protect national security, but in a vain attempt to hide the truth about Guantánamo. The fact that the prison’s real story has been ignored by our corporate media, by politicians on both sides of the aisle and, most distressingly, by the judiciary, makes this book an important historical contribution to this dark period. If the US happens to survive this episode of cruelty and lawlessness, The Guantánamo Files will be an important tool for coming to grips with how we as a nation allowed indefinite detention without charge, extraordinary rendition and torture to become national policies.”

-        October:  Bush coming to Edmonton, Saskatoon and Montreal.  In Saskatoon a month in advance of Bush’s visit we delivered letters to the Chief of Police, to the head of the RCMP Saskatoon detachment, and to the Commanding Officer for Division F (Saskatchewan).  Also to Border Services.  The letters contained the information from Lawyers Against the War (Gail Davidson).  We submitted the law and the evidence which says that Bush contravened the law and a request that they carry out their duty under the law to arrest Bush when he is here.  Scroll down to appended CONTENTS of the letters.

-        Because this involves “the law” and because many of the people who might potentially attend the Bush event were lawyers, using the Yellow Pages, we emailed almost every law firm in town, a month before the visit.  We also sent information to the Law Society (as we also had done with the Alberta Law Society when Bush was coming to Calgary.)  And to City Council.   Also to the lawyer for Brett Wilson (Calgary) who was an organizer of the Bush October visit.   Our intention was to see that it would be unpopular for people to attend, to make the visit a money-loser for the organizers.  Posters calling for arrest of Bush, the war criminal were plastered around town.  The organizers ended up giving large numbers of tickets away for free.

-        Replies were received from the Police; they said they would not arrest Bush.

-        L.A.W. sent a letter to the Attorney General of Canada, Robert Nicholson.  From Saskatoon we distributed a few thousand post cards addressed to him.  The front of the postcard reads:   “If the most powerful among us are not accountable to the law, our justice system fails.  .. -        We continue the conversation regarding the prosecution of Canadian officials who had an obligation under the law to arrest Bush when he was here.  Timing and developments, action.

-        March 2010.  (I believe that this documentary teaches Canadians an important lesson from history directly related to the current situation.)  A six-part series,  Love, Hate and Propaganda aired on CBC TV.  Hitler had a dilemma. He wanted to takeover Poland; but especially with the experience of World War One, the German people did not want to make war against anyone.   What a daunting task:  create a mindset in the population to extinguish their resistance to making war on Poland.

Hitler used mass media (radio and the movies) to create an image, an illusion, of the people of Poland.   They became vermin worthy only of extermination.  . . .  Poland was brutally attacked.

If you imagine yourself as a citizen, not of Poland in World War Two, but as a citizen of Iraq, I think you would see the current wars like the music of Bach:   we are hearing a variation on the music of war – the theme (the means) does not change.   In this variation the propaganda that allowed Bush to drop bombs on Iraq was weapons-of-mass-destruction, Muslims.  Terrorists.

Taking equality before the law a step further:  if everyone you know, knows about the very important struggles of the people to get George Bush and Company tried for  their crimes against humanity, then at least one could say that “a free press” exists in this Canadian might-be democracy.

If people are generally unaware of the struggle, then “a free press” is a meaningless phrase.   Propaganda omits one side of the story.   And anyone who questions must be marginalized.  Don’t tell their story; if you do, paint them into beings who are “radical” or “leftist” or “activist” or who “incite” the crowd to violence.  Or, make them into despicable people.

-        April 3, 2010:  Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark chosen to head international investigation of Bush Administration war crimes.

http://www.impeachbush.org/site/News2/564167183?page=NewsArticle&id=5431&news_iv_ctrl=1281

“  at a meeting of over 150 lawyers, legal scholars andhuman rights campaigners, Ramsey Clark, founder of Indict Bush Now, was chosen to be the chairperson of an international campaign to investigate war crimes committed by officials from the Bushadministration.

Representatives at the meeting held in Beirut, Lebanon, came from all over the world. The campaign will investigate the lies, deceit and manipulation leading up to the Iraq war; the conduct of the waritself against an essentially defenseless country; and the horrors of the continued occupation.

Lawyers and judges in several countries are exploring prosecution.

Ramsey Clark emphasized that it is the imperative responsibility of the American people to relentlessly pursue this investigation, and to seek prosecution and indictment inside of the United States.

-        June 7:  Calgary Judge’s decision on Splitting the Sky is due

This is not an exhaustive list of individual efforts to place Bush and his companions under the rule of law.  There are international organizations working on it, too.

If you know persons in the police and security forces, please forward this to them.  They should be aware of our efforts to insist on the rule of law; we stand in solidarity with them.

Benjamin Netanyahu is also a 'credibly suspected' war criminal who should be arrested upon his arrival here in Toronto on Sunday May 30. Instead our politicans of all stripes accord these monsters full immunity from existing and settled Canadian law. Thanks for this important information and best of luck to STS on his upcoming court decision and continuing pursuit of accountability and justice. War Criminals Not Welcome Here!

He probably does deserve to be arrested to face prosecution along with a long list of others, according to Canadian and 'international law' anyway, but not to begin straying off topic here! I guess we'll be championing whomever does arrest or attempt to arrest Netanyahu once they've done so & garnered the heroic stance that Dacajeweih has?...

Citizen's Arrest of War Criminal George W. Bush: Court Case in Canada
Anti-Bush Protester Handed Fine, One-Year Probation

by Daryl Slade

Global Research, June 10, 2010
Calgary Herald - 2010-06-07

CALGARY — A Chase, B.C., man will not go to jail after being convicted of obstructing a peace officer while protesting former U.S. president George W. Bush's visit to Calgary last year.

Provincial court Judge Manfred Delong handed a conditional discharge Monday to John Pasquale Boncore, 58, and placed him on probation for a year.

Boncore — who also goes by the name of Splitting the Sky — must make a $1,000 donation to a charity of his choice and pay a $50 victim fine surcharge as conditions of his probation.

Court heard Boncore, who wanted to have Bush arrested as a war criminal, tried to cross a line of city police officers providing security as the former president spoke at the Telus Convention Centre on March 17, 2009.

Boncore told the judge before sentencing that if being fined $1,000 "for trying to apprehend a war criminal of the Bush administration, and possibly stop torture and murder," then "bring it on."

Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, who has worked for many years in aboriginal rights with Boncore, a former resident of Buffalo, N.Y., gave a strong character reference on the man's behalf during Monday's hearing.

Outside court, Clark condemned the Bush administration for "the most unspeakable aggression" since the Second World War in starting conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. He insisted there shouldn't be a problem with protesting something you believe in.

"It's important people see that side of (Bush's regime)," said Clark. "If (the U.S.) continued this war aggression, it's going to be a short and difficult future for everybody."

A defiant Boncore told the judge before sentencing he wasn't there to incite violence but that he "(believes) in my heart that George W. Bush is a war criminal."

Crown prosecutor Tracy Davis, who did not seek any jail time, nevertheless called Boncore's actions that day a well-planned and deliberate action.

Defence lawyer Charles Davison had sought a discharge for his client, who had no prior criminal record and has a good standing in his community.

Delong said the issue did not have anything to do with Boncore's beliefs but rather what he had done that day.

He called the obstruction a relatively minor offence compared to similar cases."

If Judge DeLong said that then he ignored the evidence which he had earlier accepted and agreed to review from Laywers Against War(LAW), the same documents which Dac had with him at the time that he was attempting a citizen's arrest of Bush...

And, I'll just add that it is more than a little annoying that one can only really rely upon sources such as rabble.ca to see transcripted statements from such an important trial as this one.

That is very true Netsia.  In fact some message boards won't allow controversial topics like this to be posted.  Mainly the ones with a large readership.  There was one in Europe with over a hundred thousand registered members that would only post things after moderator approval.  Of course it was not approved.

When APTN had a forum it was the same way.  Some people could post profanities while legitimate facts that could create negative PR for their sponsors such as the oil cartel wouldn't be approved.

Any idea if APTN (Aboriginal People's Television Network) ever aired anything about Splitting the Sky?  Is the Bush Administration now one of their sponsors?

I've heard talk - that because Splitting the Sky is a Native American that he should only focus his work on freeing his own people from oppression.

But to the dismay of our oppressors he has chosen to follow the spirit of a true warrior for the people and expanded his circle of compassion to include ALL of those oppressed by the oppressors.  Not to mention the work he has done defending his own people which will not be forgotten as much as the oppressors attempt to conceal the truth.

Suffering is suffering and murder is murder regardless of where it occurs.  There are some people who will not turn a blind eye to the murdering of women and children.

Albert Einstein:

"A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space.
He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.
This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.
Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
