Treaty rights ignored, yet again
Important article here about the latest attempt to mine Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug lands.
Without consent or consultation, God's Lake Resources, a junior gold exploration company, trespassed by exploring on Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) lands. God's Lake is now threatening to drill on sacred KI burial area. KI is saying NO to God's Lake Resources, just as the community opposed mining exploration by Platinex in 2008 and De Beers in 2010.
...
The forced negotiation is in direct violation of treaty rights and with KI's inherent right to refuse extractive industries on their traditional lands, as outlined in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Yet on March 17, 2008, Chief Donny Morris and five other community members were jailed for opposing mining development on their nation's territory.

Letters to Santa stand a better chance of a favorable response.
Far better - I'm told Santa actually responds these days...I know from an acquaintance who used to be in government that over-normal response numbers do get flagged and massive response gets attention. Pols are simple creatures responding to pain or threat. Your point is well taken but the folks who will mostly do nothing at all MIGHT send an email.
Speaking of...and an aside
Letters to G20 Political Prisoner Mandy Hiscocks. They'd probably censor certain styles of writing shall we say, and who really needs to flag their return address to a police database. I wonder if there was a way we could post thoughts, comments, stiff upper lip stuff, to the condemned, in a thread, and perhaps get it through in a cake somehow? Anyone in Rabble on the visit schedule?
So just start the thread, Solidarity Greetings to G20 Political Prisoner Mandy Hiscocks, or whatever, and then email it to her lawyer when you've got a bunch. That should do it. A good idea. I would certainly like to thank her for her outstanding and courageous contribution to the struggle against fascism..
Stick to the topic please. It's important.
