Dump Site 41 Blockade
A blockade is currently taking place in Simcoe County, Ontario to prevent the province's purest water from being contaminated.
After Provincial inaction, First Nations protesters are now demanding Federal intervention.
Organizers are asking for any help you can offer, be it in numbers, supplies, funds, spreading information, whatever you can do.

steady diet - it's not that we're disinterested; I'm pretty sure that almost everyone here is in full agreement with this action. A lack of posts just means no one feels the need to add anything, and no one is challenged by it.
So you don't need to keep posting the same announcement; better to bump an existing thread you've already started, preferably by adding some news, or a specific request for help in some way. What's still needed?
Sorry everyone, I'm new to the board and figured crost-posting to different categories might be a good wy to reach more people. Sorry about that.
For an update, protesters attempted to speak with McGuinty yesterday during his visit to Georgian College in Barrie. They were forced out several times by college security as well as city police and while they didn't manage to speak to the Premier directly, their presence elicited a comment.
“We need landfill sites.” said McGuinty, noting that work surrounding Site 41 has been going on for 15 years. “The best advice that we’re getting is…we can do this in a way that does not compromise the quality of the environment.”
The blockade is still active and protesters will not leave until development on the site is stopped.
Besides more people to help with the blockade, the organizers need AA batteries for their walkie talkies, tarps, and donations of prepared food such as sandwiches, snacks, coffee & tea.

Thanks for the heads up.
Just a suggestion that either this thread be closed with a link to here, or that that thread be closed with a link to this thread so people can read more background on this issue if they want to see. I have heard that the city has speed up opening of the dump from a few months to a few weeks and the people at the site as of July 6 were blockading the three entrances to the pruposed dump (media reports that it became a permanent blockade).
That link bears no mention of the blockade. The things that you have heard are detailed in the links provided in the original post.
These people are in an important fight and need help getting information out.
That thread does not mention the blockade because I said said it is BACKGROUND of the very same fight the Anishnable have fought for months. That thread details part of the begining on the protest which has now escaladed into a blockade because of the innaction of the government. These people have been at the site for many months fighting this fight and that is just as important as the actual blockade.
You being new to posting at Babble I will explain. When there is one thread open on a topic, in this case the fight to stop the dump by the Annishnable women, anything to do with that topic, including an escalation of that fight to a blockade is kept in the same thread so that people who are interested can keep tabs on that thread, so that anyone wanting all the information on a particular struggle can get it all in one place and so that there are not a million threads open about the different areas to do with one topic so a person doesn't have to spend their entire time opening four or five threads in various places on the board or more to see which is the most current, important or to get all the information to do with a particular struggle. Helps to keep things organized for user friendliness.
Got it. I'm just worried people won't realize the accelerated urgency of what's currently happening based on the title of the other thread.
Just a quick update:
*there are people stationed at all 3 entrances to the area known as dumpsite 41 and they plan to remain there all night and into tomorrow. This will prevent access to the site tomorrow.
*Many people are needed to bring our numbers up, there is safety in numbers. Bring your neighbours, your friends, your relatives etc.
*They begin at 5:30 AM, so come early
*We also need AA batteries for our walkie talkies, tarps and donations of prepared food such as sandwiches, snacks, coffee & tea (there are tea Grannies too!)
*charge up your phones before you come
*Bring your good minds and hearts
*pray for the peaceful protest
I want to say miigwech for all the donations that have been made, we are putting them all to good use. We appreciate your support in helping to stand up for the water.
PS Please don't bring bottled water, the bottles mostly end up in landfills (29 billion each year end up in the landfill which we are protesting) and there is a spring along the highway near Elmvale as well as on the farmer's property. Drinking the water that we are protecting seems to be the best approach. If you want to bring water, please bring spring water from the Aquifer, from the spring along hwy 27 just north of Elmvale. Miigwech, thank you.
ahow,
Shelley
