Right this moment, there are thousands of Tamil rights protesters lining Yonge Street (the main street in Toronto) with Tamil and Canadian flags, peacefully and loudly chanting for Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka.
When I say thousands, I mean it. From Yonge and Dundas, where I took the pictures, there were protesters lining the west sidewalk of Yonge Street for as far as the eye could see both north and south - apparently it goes as far south as Front Street. See what I mean - this is the view south in front of the Eaton Centre (see here for larger photos):
Some more pictures from the demo that I just took an hour ago or so:
This is the view north from Yonge and Dundas.
As I walked north, the line of protesters stretched well north of College Street. This is Yonge Street between Gould and Gerrard.
The Toronto Star has a breaking story about this on their web site. It's little more than a traffic report. Seriously, that's their angle? A protest with thousands of people and their angle for the story is that there's a traffic jam? Incredible.
