BC NDP 50th Convention
I don't see any discussion on babble about the BC NDP's 50th Convention that took place this weekend. Tons of tweeting going on, but can't find much else. Is this a reflection of changing times and methods of communication? Has babble become irrelevant? Are there no delegates who wish to describe, in more than 140 characters, what's been going on? Seems like there's enough issues to discuss, such as internal party democracy and the acclamation of Moe Sihota as party president *with a new salary and per diem*, the controversial Equity Mandate, the Federal NDP Leadership "show", etc.
Would like to read SOMETHING on here. How does one find out what's going on if you couldn't afford the $425 convention fee? Or if you didn't think charging a $25 "member observer" fee was fair? Not much MSM coverage and absolutely nothing on the BC NDP website...

My God that sounds exciting - tell us more please!
Interesting point. On the other hand, why would ordinary folk care about what goes on at a meeting where you have to pay $425 to attend?
Maybe it's just about getting the $425... We may be onto something here!
The head of the Federation of Labour should not be speaking at a party convention. Do you see top business group heads talking at Liberal or Conservative conventions?
A bit of discussion spilled into the NDP leadership thread because of the town hall. And a bit in the BCNDP nominations thread.
Quite the tribute to Jenny Kwan's political acumen:

Thanks Jenny for helping the BC NDP obtain a leader they can win with.

Actually there was significant recognition given to Carole James' decision to run again and how that has allowed the Party to heal much quicker than it might have.

That's because we're more honest about the role of Labour in our Party.
Or more thick headed.
Jenny did what had to be done. A big personal sacrifice for the good of the party.
Unfortunately, Moe and Dix had the leadership race in the bag before it began. So much for renewal. If the BCNDP do win, it will not help Joe and Joan citizen. Just a different set of piggies at the trough with their asses pointed out at us and curly tails a wiggling.
By taking out the Leader, because James had failed in her leadership abilities, when it had to be done, Jenny showed what true leadership is all about.
And actually no one had Carole's replacement in the bag, and even Jenny backed someone else rather than Adrian for Leader. So what!
Adrian had a pretty amazin' team organizing for him in his own right, a great coach who shall presently remain unnamed, and also Gerry Scott and Mable Elmore.
But there is no doubt Jenny Kwan is a class act.
Any NDP or any other party candidate would give up a lot to scratch the surface of Jenny's and her riding's executive political organizing skills.
Have you ever driven through Mount Pleasant during an election campaign? That's all you have to do to realize Jenny owns the riding, like no other BC NDP candidate does.
But that comes through Jenny and her team's hard work 365 days a year, year after year for 4 years, term after term.
You see Jenny and her team know what most fall to grasp, and that is the first day of the next election campaign begins the day after the last campaign ends.
Jenny is in a classs by herself, and that is what drives her opponents, both within in the BC NDP, and outside the BC NDP, nuts.
