With a pending by-election in Vancouver Point Grey thought it would be a good idea to get the topic under discussion.

While we know that Christy Clark will be the Liberal candidate who is likely to challlenge her for the NDP.

Will we see either the BC Cons or BC First Party run a strong candidate.

Does the NDP equality rule apply to this riding.

What about a date - could they try and have it before the NDP leadership convention - what is the minumun number of days required from time notice of the seat being vacant that a vote can be held.

Would they opt to have it held on the same day as the HST vote if that vote is moved up to June 24.

If not these too options - when - what effect will a later vote have given that most UBC Students will be in their home riding and not at UBC.

Okay over to you experts.

Clark's Big Problem: Vander Zalm Syndrome

Incoming premier faces a raft of challenges. Hardest might be building a loyal cabinet.

Christy Clark faces the Vander Zalm syndrome, and I question her ability to handle it. I would say the same thing about any of the other candidates had they won

As the NDP will surely lose if Clark runs, it would be worth running a candidate just designed to be a foil to her weaknesses. This might be rather easy, as there are lots of items on offer, such as the HST, scandals under the ministry of children and families, and school closures. As an example, a small business person who saw their long-term family business close because of the HST might be a good candidate. Of course, it will be hard to "generate" name recognition for any candidate that runs against her as she is still in a new premier honeymoon.

Clark picks her cabinet and signs her death certificate with Falcon as acting premier and Polak, Minister of Aborignal Affairs.  Polak is notorious for the high number of infants deaths on the reserves as Minister of Families & Children.  And then we have Rich Coalman, as Minister of Mines and Housing, to help speed up the process of a death of a way of life, for the First Nations and people on the street .  It is clear what Clark is up to.  The First Nations people are in for a rough ride and so are families in BC.   I thought Clark was smart but not anymore, it is just a question of time before Falcon steps into her place.  He has his fingers crossed. Teachers are being laid off by the hundreds and parents are crying for new schools because they don't want their children ending up like fools.

I will have to disagree, Clark is already hung herself out to dry and no amount of media dribble will destroy that glorious event.  Do you think Clark will hang in there if the Liberals don't have a win or perhaps she may not win a seat.  Rumor is Campbell's old riding is anxiously awaiting Clark and it isn't good, for Christie that is.

Wonder what the effect of today`s announcement of an increase in the minumum wage to $8.75 on May 1 - elimination of the training wage and further increases until it`s $10.25 on May 1, 2012 will have on a by-election as it just took one of the main campaign platforms away from most of the NDP leadership candidates.

Falcon is Deputy Premier - that position exists regardless of whether the Premier has a seat or not.

Perennial Vancouver-Point Grey candidate and Adrian Dix backer Mel Lehan announced today that he will be seeking the nomination in the riding again. Patti Bacchus and Bill Tieleman have already ruled themselves out for the NDP nomination.

What is Crusty afraid of?

BTW I have to admit I'm pleasantly surprised by Dawn Black. She is doing a better job than I expected and is creating a precedent for the incoming leader.
