FFS.

I've got my eye open for these racist mo-fo's. Dare to tread in my space punks.

Quote:
Oyinsan, who's lived in this country since 1996, said the targeted vandalism is a first since he emigrated from Nigeria.

"This isn't Canada ... this isn't what I am used to," he said.

"The neighbours are friendly."

"It only happens on weekends," Brown said. "I'm worried for my grandchildren ... what if someone got into the house?"

What most worries her, beyond being described as a "whore," was the warning in a letter left in August: If they don't move, "someone would be killed."

A similar situation occured here in Nova Scotia several years ago. So, we seem to have people who have no historical connection to these abhorrent symbols brushing off the grave dust and reanimating their bones to do...what? Nooses, crosses and swastikas are symbols (and real objects that brought misery) of an era these people have no connection to, so why would a Nova Scotian burn a cross or a Ontarian use a Swastika?

Should we be pleased that these "blame the other" individuals need to reach so far back for their racist outbursts? Does it mean we are getting better, in the sense that there are no contemporary symbols racists can look to for comfort?

This is sad, but I hope they reconsider their plan to move. That just makes the vandalism appear effective. There's also no place they can move to where it's guaranteed that this won't happen again.

The best solidarity anyone in that community could show for those people would be to agree, in small groups, to stand vigil outside their home at night.  Left parties did that in the U.S. in the past when black families who moved into previously segregated neighborhoods faced violent resistance from the people around them.

Some of the local Occupy people could volunteer for that.

Gah! I always mess up. This is one of those stories where they trot out how vigilant we are to anti-racism. The odd story or two help us complete our narrative and aquiesence.

Sorry for being duped.

Same old Canada tomorrow isn't it?

Why do you say you've been duped?

Becuase it's one of those same old articles(which hit close to home) acting like the Scum gives a shit. It's nowhere close to helping and in fact, likely exacerbating the feeling. I've witnessed first hand how media works.

This will allow white folk to tuck their privilege in their right pocket and huff huff like we care.
