What do you think: "Nice White Lady" movie?
I'm taking my son to the movies this afternoon and we're thinking about going to see "The Class", a French movie about an inspiring high school teacher. My first reaction when I saw the listing was, uh oh, another "Nice White Lady" movie, except in this one it's a "Nice White Guy" movie.
But I'm not sure whether that's accurate, despite the fact that it's about a white teacher in a "rough school" (read: full of people of colour).
Here's a review from the NY Times, which I realize isn't the final authority on anti-racist thought, but it describes the movie somewhat. I'm thinking I'll take him to see it anyhow since it's critically acclaimed, and we can talk about it afterwards if there are problematic themes in it, like the white teacher being cast as lord and saviour to the kids.

Anyone seen it? Anyone know whether my suspicions are well-founded? :) By the way, for those who haven't seen it, the "Nice White Lady" allusion comes from this:
Sort of a reverse To Sir With Love (1967 Brit flick with Sydney Poitier as the teacher for a class of young white inner city kids in London...)
It has to be better than that picture of London.
Whoops. wrong forum.
Forgot my place.
Many apologies.
