I happen to work for the Post Office here in the lovely town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. (and I always state for the record that working for the Post Office is NOT a contradiction in terms!!) If any Rabblers happen to come this way this summer on vacation, drop into the Post Office and say 'Hi'!
The Permanent stamps have proved to be a big hit with customers, since they don't have to worry about buying extra postage to round-up to the new amount whenever the price of stamps increases, like it will be here in Canada on January 17th!
And anyone who says that the Post Office is dying, I can tell you for a fact that the amount of letter mail was far greater this past Christmas that the previous few years, and parcel mailings are up, especially with people ordering things over the internet.
If a Christian doesn't believe in Armageddon, is it the end of the world?
Anything we ship out of province goes by Canada Post (otherwise it's by the provincial bus line, STC)
I have had courier companies pull all kinds of dirty tricks on me:
charging double customs brokerage fees because there happened to be two boxes in the shipment,
promising next day delivery (for a hefty fee) to a retail outlet and then showing up on their doorstep at 7 am when obviously no one is going to be there,
Charging a huge surcharge after the fact because they have to go up one flight of stairs or because it is to a residential address
There are a couple of big courier companies I simply refuse to do business with anymore.
I have heard all the jokes about the Post Office, but I have not experienced any of that proverbial nonsense, delay or breakage. Plus they are cheaper. There are some cases in which I pay more to support a certain service or option . The fact is that in this case it is just the better choice.
