I liked his Anybody But Harper campaign against the Conservatives.

Needless to say. this throws Newfoundland politics wide open. The provincial Tories are really nothing but "the Danny Williams party" and I think the next NL election will be highly competitive now. Maybe Lorraine Michaels and the NDP can take advantage of the situation.

Nfld provincial politics since Confederation has been dominated by premiers with strong personalities.

Strange to see this coming just as a new $6Billion Hydro initiative is getting off the ground.

It is also leading to Nfld and labrador's first female premier, Kathy Dunderdale.

Check out the blog post on the rabble front page by JIm Qual, before it gets taken down, libel and all that. Harper to Williams, beautiful language from a Christian gentleman.

She was the acting Premier when Williams had his heart surgery.

Williams told us that Harper's first words to him were "Don't you fuck up my country."

Astute readers will note:

1.  shocking profanity from a god-fearing conservative, and

2. more revealingly, the use of the first person singular possessive pronoun in relation to Canada

Williams told us that he replied:  "Don't you fuck up my province or I'll chase you to the four corners of the earth".

Except that the "hydro initiative" is a total charade that only exists on paper and will crumble by Easter, like much of the rest of the Danny Williams facadist legacy.

Or as she is quite commonly known as, Kathy Blunderdale. The Dunderdale era is going to be short and hilarious.

It is pretty remarkable that in Newfoundland and Labrador, all three parties represented in the house are led by women.

Although I wouldn't plan on beating her in her riding.  She got over 73% there in the last provincial election.

As did a lot of other useless Tories in their own districts. But that district (among many others) is a swinger, and tends to go whatever way the wind is blowing. In most elections, there are only about 10 or each that the Liberals and PC's can rely on, and the rest move with the tide.

Nope. No bigger a deal than the "deal" that Grimes had, or Tobin before him, or Wells before him, or Peckford before him, or Moores before him, or Smallwood before him. Every premier of NL achieves some sort of "breakthrough" on damming the river in Labrador, and then they resign or are defeated. Been going on for forty years.
