Are cell phone numbers going public?

Has anyone heard that cell phone numbers are supposed to go public next month?

Would telemarketers have access to these numbers?

I would expect that if they do, then the cell phone owner would be paying for the call.

Cell phone numbers are somewhat public now, at least in so far as Rogers/Bell/Telus/etc sell the list of numbers to telemarkers

Jesus, that sucks!  I certainly hope they won't be!  I have unlimited incoming calls, but I know lots of people who don't.

Nothing would piss me off like cell companies making our numbers public and then charging us for spam callers!

And yeah, Bacchus, I had my cell phone for less than a week when I got my first telemarketer calling me.  It really ticked me off.

There should be laws about that sort of thing.  Any company that sells their cell phone lists should have to offer unlimited free incoming calls from anywhere in the world.

Actually, I think all cell phone companies should have to offer unlimited incoming calls and text messages free anyhow, since the cell phone holder can't control who calls them.

Is it that time of year again? Because the warning that the telemarketers are about get your cellphone number circulates about once a year. See snopes.com.

Thanks, people.  I checked out snopes.com, but I still wonder how telemarketers get those numbers to call.

Computer dialing program that are automated to first see if someone will pick up and then they go for the action. They don't care who is at the other end of the number only whether they will answer the phone. The spammers/fraudsters share lists so I follow the general rule of don't pick up if it is long distance and the number is unknown to me.  I have voice mail people who actually want me leave messages.
