Best ISPs

I was going to ask people who lived in Toronto what ISP they use 'cause i'm looking around. But then i thought why not just make this a thread where we compare ISP prices and services in all parts of the country/world/universe?

I'm using TechSavvy in Toronto right now. I pay $46.39/month for 5Mbps (clocked at around 4.3Mbps). The price includes the $9.10 Bell tariff and HST. No contract.

What are other folks using and who are the best ISPs out there?

Telus Globetrotter out here on the coast: dialup (48kbps) combined with a single phone line: $54.17.  Telus bills by an hour plan; mine is 250hours/month, $1.99 per hour over that amount. I've only exceeded 250 hours in one month over the eleven years I've been a subscriber.

Telus has other internet billing plans but I haven't looked at them. I know they're more expensive.

Here in rEdmonton my internet (Shaw cable) is bundled with phone and TV, but the internet part is $37/month for 7.5Mbps down and  512kbps up with an 60Gb/month cap with $2/Gb overage charges. No contract. Standalone would be $47/mo. There is a cheaper ($25/month but slower) option.

I have tested the speeds from Shaws own servers and I pretty much get what I am supposed to. Tech support is good. I actually hardly ever watch the idiot box but I can download all the TV and movies that I could possibly watch without coming close to the cap.

in winnipeg, i (unfortunately) use shaw cable internet.  My bill is 52.64$ with tax (it's gone up by over ten bucks in the last year and a half). for 6mbps

To be honest, i'm not even sure if there is a download cap in my area, i'm certainly not aware of the limit if i have one, it's not on my bill.  However, there is a "faster" option that is ANOTHER ten buck a month.

Le T I'm with one of the evil ones. I can't say the name, I'm too ashamed. Needless to say I pay too much but the service is fantastic. Oops, now you know it isn't Bell. lmao

I use Sasktel (publicly owned) as a matter of principle. I know in many parts of the country no such option exists. You can see the rates here. There are no caps and no plans to implement caps.

note: the link is bad. Just go to www.sasktel.com and click on 'Internet' if for some reason you are interested in the rates.

I've got Shaw Cable here in N. Ontario. For $29/mo I get about 8 Mb/s on download and somewhere around 0.5Mb/s (+/-) on the up ramp. My cap is about three times what it was with Sympatico, which I sometimes exceeded and ended up being billed an extra $10 dollars a mo. by the chiselling bastards at Bell.

ETA: I just did a Shaw speed test and the averaged results were:

67ms ping - 11.1 Mb/s down - 0.39 Mb/s up

Interesting that the Shaw cable packages vary by region, and that there is quite a variation in price.

I lived in Alberta for 10 months. I came to hate Telus.

Of course, I don't live in a larger city where everything tends to be pricier. The small town where I am is economically depressed and overall cost of living lower than in Toronto or Vancouver where people have more money to donate to fat-cat cable companies.
