Hey all,

Does anyone know of a handy Hansard reductionist site? In the interest of starting a political thread about certain local MPs, I wasted way too much time sifting through individual Hansard prints looking for instances of a specific MP's name (using the "find on this page" command in Explorer). Has anyone found a quicker way of find information for invididual parliamentarian? I've been to the "How'd they vote" site, but it's not as up-to-date as I'd like.

You need the Hansard Index. One is compiled for each session of each Parliament. We are currently in the 2nd session of the 39th Parliament (a session starts with a Speech From the Throne, and ends on prorogation or dissolution).

Start here at the Chamber Business Home ...

... then click on Chamber Business Home under the House of Commons in the left-hand menu ...

Now you have a choice:

* either click on the Index link in the left-hand menu (the one under "Status of House Business") to use the traditional index like we used to do in the old days (yes, I'm dating myself ;-) ), or

* click on the new-fangled "Search and browse the Debates by subject" link, also in the left-hand menu. That brings you here, where you can either do a search, or browse the index a bit more.

Have fun (and do spend a minute appreciating how hard researchers used to work in the old days!).

That's actually what I've been using, OO. I didn't realize the TOC at the top of each page was so detailed. That helps quite a bit, actually. Now if I only had time!
