So I was thinking about swithing to the Mac side, however I am an avid player of games on my PC (I find the relaxing after a day of work). My friends keep telling me that there are no games on the Mac. I know that there are games on the Mac but I get the feeling that they are very limited.
Are there any Mac users on babble that play video games on their Mac? It would be helpful if they could let me in on the 'Mac gaming experience'.
There are tons games for Macs, my husband has a bunch of games where he takes over the world or something and a flight simulator too I think. You just might not be able to go to Future Shop to buy whatever you want.
But with my new laptop it doesn't really matter, I can run a Windows platform on it and play whatever I want. And when the new OS comes out in October I am pretty sure the interface required to flip to PC mode is included so you don't need to by an extra piece of software, I think it's called Bootcamp.
Yeah, the selection is gonna be limited compared to what you can get for PC. Blizzard (World of Warcraft, Warcraft 3, Diablo, Starcraft) releases all of its games for Mac, some others do too, but a lot don't, or the games get ported months after they're released for PC.
As Scout said, with the Intel Macs, you can install Windows via Bootcamp and play games that way. I read somewhere that they're updating it so that it can suspend the operating system rather than shutting down to switch between them. So, you could potentially go between Windows and MacOS within 10 seconds or so instead of the 2 minutes or so a reboot would take.
I have a Mac laptop, but still use my desktop PC for gaming. I don't think I'll change that, but good luck if you decide to.

Unfortunately for some of us still making use of older hardware, it only runs on Intel-based Macs. quote:I read somewhere that they're updating it so that it can suspend the operating system rather than shutting down to switch between them. That may or may not be ready for Leopard, the next OSX release, but Bootcamp will ship with Leopard either way, at no additional charge.

This sounds like a good idea I think I might do that instead of switching totally over to Macs.
Laptops are generally performance-compromised when it comes to gaming anyway, due to such things as shared memory systems and smaller disk cache. As for a desktop, the dedicated game systems (XBox and their ilk) are far cheaper than a PC of similar gaming performance.
If I had play money to spare, I'd be looking at a MacBook and a Wii.
I would just keep a Windows machine for games, if you like computer gaming. There are so many good games that just aren't ported to mac so it would be foolish, as a game lover, to go exclusively mac. The second posters vid said it all, if you wanna play jubbles or some crap ok but if you are into serious rpg's (not warcraft) or fps's, like Max Payne, which is sweet, or the Gothic games, a fantabulous rpg series, then mac doesn't cut it. Direct X Baby!!!!
I just read Lard tunderin's last post. Consoles suck for a PC gamer, they're all about click speed, so a true PC gamer wouldn't consider a console a viable alternative to PC games.
Awww Damn, you guys got me thinking about games....summer job has been prohibitive....jay potts if you wanna trade games I got lots o' good ones... like Final fantasy 7&8.....Deus Ex...Max Payne 1&2....Ghost Recon all expansions...Fallout 1&2!!!.....lemme know whatcha got.

Please look at this video and tell me it is not magic. Displair, a Russian company from Astrakhan has come up with a technology to project images into the thin air, and use gestures to move them.
Images projected on to fog and gestures interpreted by infrared sensors. Way cool.

Hey this could end up being a really cool moviemakers' prop, simulation technology, browser interface, or a really cool Xbox or PS3 feature.
