babble is rabble.ca's discussion board but it's much more than that: it's an online community for folks who just won't shut up. It's a place to tell each other — and the world — what's up with our work and campaigns.

A certain level of hypocrisy, no big surprise

Catholic Church seeking to violate victim confidentiality

Quote:

Turning the tables on an advocacy group that has long supported victims of pedophile priests, lawyers for the Roman Catholic Church and priests accused of sexual abuse in two Missouri cases have gone to court to compel the group to disclose more than two decades of e-mails that could include correspondence with victims, lawyers, whistle-blowers, witnesses, the police, prosecutors and journalists.

I strongly encourage babblers to read the entire article - it being a NYTimes link it may not last forever.

In the words of one of the staff of SNAP:

Quote:
"[This is] not a fishing expedition," Mr. Clohessy said. "It was a fishing, crabbing, shrimping, trash-collecting, draining the pond expedition. The real motive is to harass and discredit and bankrupt SNAP, while discouraging victims, witnesses, whistle-blowers, police, prosecutors and journalists from seeking our help."

Perhaps the Catholic clergy should be taped when they are confessing to each other in the booth... shouldn't they face the consequences of the kind of argument their legal staff are employing?
