Bills C-36 and C-510: Rule of law over in Canada
With the passing of Bills C-36 and C-510, rule of law will be effectively over in Canada.
I pray that some benevolent force is watching over Canada, but we must act to save democracy and our nation now!

this law is anti democratic, will end up stealing billions from much needed social programs, etc...
could this be part of the larger perimeter security agreement with the US??
either way it's a bullshit law and must be opposed, but since it's getting no coverage no one even knows about it....i talk to people who smoke regularly and they have sometimes never heard of this.

Do you mean S-10 -- mandatory minimums for pot cultivation -- rather than C-510? C-510 was a private member's bill and was the latest offering from the parliamentary anti-abortion caucus. It was defeated today.

No typo is more important than civil rights and life sentences for non-violent marijuana crimes.
A group of health care professionals is sending out a letter to PM Harper in protest of Bill S-10.
I was notified by email, but here is a link to their statement. By the way, they do not appear to be asking the general public to sign their letter, but only academics and "other health professionals" [not me, for eg.].

The gist of their protest is: "Research indicates that the approach proposed by Bill S-10 will only serve to create greater health and social harms. Canada needs an evidence-based approach to drug policy that prioritizes public health, not costly incarceration schemes that will take resources away from effective prevention and treatment initiatives".
They are also, I am glad to see, citing the Harper government for ignoring science on this issue [as Harper tends to do on so many issues].
Thank you, Noah, will share.
