Interesting article on why many MPs in various parties decided not to run again in 2019:

Stephen Harper Heads A Global Org That Helps Get Right-Wing Parties Elected. What Will It Do For Andrew Scheer?

https://thetyee.ca/Analysis/2019/08/06/Harper-Heads-Global-Org-Help-Elec...

"Voter suppression works. Ask the Kochs, Trump and our very own robocall fakers...'The IDU website says Harper had overseen 'a dramatic deepening of relations with India.' The right-wing Hindu nationalist ruling BJP party joined the IDU in February 2016. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu's hard-right party, Likud became the 73rd member of the IDU in 2018. The party's initiation was marked by a ceremony at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California, presided over by Harper.

Here in Canada, Andrew Scheer has an important ally in his quest for a majority government - the new chairman of the IDU, his old boss, Stephen Harper. And he has already penned fundraising emails for Andrew Scheer..."

But surely no match for the power and connections of billionaire Stephen Bronfman, chief Liberal fundraiser,  who pens them for Justin Trudeau...?

No wonder we are probably headed for a minority government Good God!

Sounds like a minor issue involving a Liberal MP's law firm -- being given extra attention from the pro-Conservative Global Network.

Trudeau’s Liberals have the edge on Scheer’s Conservatives in this pre-election season

Chantal Hébert

Mon., Aug. 12, 2019

Canada’s two main parties may be tied in voting intentions at the national level, but the pre-election season has so far been kinder to Justin Trudeau’s Liberals than to Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives.

Campaigning For Scheer? Or Trudeau?  (and vid)

https://www.blogto.com/city/2019/08/racist-toronto-woman-talya-davidson-...

"A 28-year old woman named Talya Davison was arrested and charged with four counts of assault in downtown Toronto on Monday after screaming racial slurs in Nathan Philips Square and spitting on at least one person. This much is fact, as verified by Toronto Police and multiple witnesses.

As for why the young woman did what she did, nobody can definitely say...And yet, with a federal election on the horizon, some speculate that her actions on Monday afternoon were part of a ploy to influence voters..."

This is absolutely ridiculous! Why is the NDP leader wasting time in Brampton and Mississauga where there is no realistic chance of breakthrough? Even the Ontario NDP didn't win seats in Mississauga last time around. No mention of the NDP leader swinging by Winnipeg even with one seat available for pick-up and one in danger of falling. Why hasn't the NDP leader visited Saskatchewan? Those are seats that can make a difference in stopping the rise of the Conservatives. The Green leader has been in Calgary, a gutsy move considering that province's opposition to the carbon tax. Why hasn't the NDP leader visited Edmonton to capitalize on the strong showing of the provincial NDP in that last election? The Green leader is also in Newfoundland and Labrador, despite the provincial party having almost no presence there. Why wasn't the NDP leader in St. Johns to try and capitalize on a local area of strength for the NDP?

This is frustrating. I have friends who are Conservative supporters who I'm sure can do a better job running the NDP than the current people in charge.

I have made a contribution to the Hamilton Centre NDP campaign, but I am not inclined to entrust my limited funds to the current national NDP strategists.

CTV did a report on nominated candidates for each party. NDP still lags behind at 149. With 338 ridings that is not even 50% of the slate being filled.

I'm surprised by how far behind the NDP is in candidate selection.  While they weren't expected to be in contention to form government in the 2019 Election, it's still striking how many areas of the country don't have NDP candidates yet.

Aristotle, there is every reason why Jagmeet is campaigning in Brampton.

It is his home town. He was elected there twice in provincial elections.

Brampton is also trending NDP. It won 3 out of 5 seats there in last year’s provincial election.

While it may be difficult to make a breakthrough there on current polling the party does have reasonable prospects.

It isn't. He was born in Scarborough and grew up in St. John's and Windsor. Did he ever actually live there? I had the impression he lived in Toronto. He was a regular in the night clubs there.

More broadly, I get the impression that Singh just isn't comfortable outside his own orbit. Look at the way he wrote off Saskatchewan, and is MIA in interior BC,  in the prairies and on the east coast. It appears that he believes the narrative that he's the anwswer to a  breakthough in Greater Toronto.

Yes Jagmeet lived in Brampton, practiced law there and was twice elected to the legislature from Brampton Gore Malton

According to a  profile in Toronto Life in 2013, two years into his first term as MPP, Singh lived in Mississauga. But that's pretty close.

I wonder what effect a possible win by the NDP in the Manitoba election might have on the NDP's national results.

Remember, in the run up to the 2015 election the NDP was actually in 3rd place, they only jumped to 1st place in May after the NDP won the Alberta election because that win made people believe that the NDP could win. If the NDP scores an upset in Manitoba it could lift the NDP's fortunes, definitely not into first place but maybe to the 25% range which would be huge for the party.

There was a poll released today showing the NDP 1 point behind the PCs (though with the huge caveat that it was by a firm called Converso Engagement Services Inc which is a new polling firm doing their first political poll, so the methodology might've been off.)

None whatsoever. The NDP won Manitoba in 1999, only to go on and have a bad result in the 2000 election nationally. There was almost no national spill-over effect from provincial into federal politics. If there had been, the NDP would have taken most Winnnipeg seats, along with rural seats in Selkirk, Dauphin, and Brandon in the 2004 federal campaign. It might give Daniel Blaikie, Kyle Mason, and Leah Gazan enough of a bounce for them to win their seats, but that is about it.

Freeland is the liberals top asset? Perfect example of how stupid Canadian voters are!

Thanks for posting this link NDPP! Prime example of how Canada’s veiled right wing party, the liberals, popularize imperialist corporate stooges like Freeland to promote imperialist raping into the new fashionable lefty democracy

It was actually called Bramalea Gore Malton. East central Peel region around Pearson international aeroport. Malton is part of Mississauga I believe.

As a side note, Jag first ran in the 2011 federal election and came in an surprising strong second! I attended his rally at an Indian banquet hall. Layton was there. I convinced my union brother Bill Signal to accompany me. Bill then convinced Sid Ryan to be there. The Layton campaign ran that rally in tv adds!

Bill and Sid told me that was the biggest best NDP rally they ever saw in Peel! And Jag made it happen!

Everyone here on this board knows for a fucking fact that the NDP has the hardest time promoting itself in the corporate imperialist country of Canada. And it’s because of the imperialist corporate media! But for some reason, after the imperialist corporate media successfully destroys the NDP at the polls, Hard core NDP supporters start ripping at each other (I’m also guilty) This is what the corporate elite want the NDP supporters to do!
