Economy is on the mend?
Someones got some splannin to do
Canada's unemployment rate rose to an 11-year high of 8.4 per cent in May as the country lost 41,800 jobs, Statistics Canada said Friday.
The jobless rate was up from eight per cent in April, when the country added about 36,000 jobs.
Economists had been looking for about 36,000 jobs to be lost in May.
TD Bank economist Derek Burleton said that even though job losses have slowed from earlier in the year, the unemployment rate is expected to continue climbing as employment lags behind the economy.
"Even though we might get some bottoming in the economy over the next quarter or two, that unemployment rate risks moving higher in 2010," he said.
The Canadian dollar slipped back by 0.97 at 90.20 cents US in morning foreign exchange trading. The loonie's tumble came on better-than-expected U.S. jobs data, coupled with the worse-than-expected Canadian data.
Nothin to see here folks. The numbers from April are the ones that are important. Isn't the stock market and oil futures doing well. I guess the economy is fine!
It shows the same pattern as the 1930's. When the stock market tumbled in '29, there was a lag period in Canada where everyone tricked themselves into thinking it was an American problem, and things wouldn't be so bad here, if bad at all. And, we heard a lot of that talk here in Canada last fall.
And, as in the 30's, there will be a lag time before the good effects of the American economy recovering are felt here.
It ain't rocket surgery.
No it isn't but some sure make it sound like it as they get their facts and figures from another planet. The Canadian economy will pick up once the American economy does so and do not expect miracles as this is not happening anytime soon. As even increased immigration is not going to pick up the economy although it will bring up retail sales slightly along with moving a few homes on the market. While new immigrants come to a system that used to help its own but with 8 years of steady increased immigration as many as 500,000 immigrants can be found on Canadians soil putting a large drain on system. As workers get visa to work here and this has been increasing. Good for the economy or real bad for Canadians as there are no jobs as every 25 seconds another Canadian finds themselves unemployed and a candidate for bankruptcy and foreclosure. And its boat loads of East Indians and the culture differences taking women back to the dark ages that makes you wish you were born somewhere else, just not India or China I'm sure as people all over the world give their respects for those murdered in cold blood by fellow Chinese as they protest peacefully for Democracy.
nice display of casual racism
Hey Thorin, have you seen any by industry break down of these numbers? The article you've linked mentions 58'000 manufacturing jobs lost, but a total of 41'800, which would suggest some industry is making up for some of the losses (I assume service industry jobs, gotta love losing a manufacturing postion for a walmart greeter job). From what I've seen, the information industry is doing relatively well (different from manufacturing in that nothing is physically made), but if the majority of the growth ends up being low paying service industry jobs...then the 41'800 number is misleading compared to the actual total of 58'000 manufacturing job losses.
added...that is pretty blatantly racist mybabble.

Of course. The only people believing unemployment numbers as reported by Stats Canada might be whatever politicians happen to be in power. Everyone else knows that the perameters of "unemployment" have been cooked to paint the rosiest picture as possible.
What it amounts to is your tax dollars being used by Statistics Canada to fabricate clever lies to make the party in power look as good as possible.
The race to the bottom continues. They have to pauperize Canada slowly so that Canadians become accustomed to thirdworldization, and while at the same time clinging to their phony majority power. And now it's reduced to phony minority power with the Liberals propping them up.
Formet in St. Thomas, a magna plant that makes truck frames, has recalled 500 workers.
Mybabble, your post is blatently racist. You've been around here long enough to know better than to post stuff like that. I just looked through a few of your old posts, and this seems to be a bit of a blind spot for you. I'm giving you a two week vacation to think it over.
Unemployment hits 15-year high in Ontario
Yup, everythings fine, lets all go to work
It sounds like my company has a lot of work coming, just not soon enough. Sorry noise, No breakdown. I would guess walmart or mcjobs. My friend offered me a job to work at subway during my lay off. She mentioned she was gettin 40 resumes a week from "old people" Meaning people no longer in their 20's. I figured they needed the work more as I only need to support myself. I can get by on EI better than a family can.
I don't know what's funnier the bank backpeddling ever week, or neocons now cheering on defits and corp bailouts. The only problem is they are trying to shock the system so when the inevitable social safety cuts come no one can say no.
what about the recent OECD statement - that Canada has no where to go but up, and Flaherty commenting that things ar looking good because of his reno money !!?? they call these people economists?? telling time by the second hand of the clock.
we're overdrafted on the earth and poor people's resources and lives. in the red big time. until we seriously change to green and fair, there's no solution for the majority. i'd like to believe things were improving in the economy, but its not showing in my neck of the woods. the bulletin boards in town are covered with people offering their services for any odd jobs. for sale signs everywhere. and this irritating retreat to US-western culture.
i think Canadian Tire is US owned now, correct? the entry to the store has a big camo ATV, and further in a few racks of US hunting brand T shirts.. locally our town is having its first 'Stampede' rodeo, great, get to brutalize animals more in this economy for entertainment.. but it's another venue for unemployed people to sell stuff, sing a country song and make a few dollars...
I couldn't find any jobs either, and it sickens me to death to hear about how the economy is recovering because its bullshit.

It goes without saying all this exerts great influence upon the Canadian economy as well...

hi there fucc u ty and if you actually were to distinguish the dif cultures in east africa which you would call east india you would realize there a lot that are maternal and less sexist then ur so called "supreme" white european culture. On top of that immigrants contintribute to the economy idiots like you are a drain. Why does it make you wish you were born somewhere else? So you could be on the reciveing end of shit you recieve? Know how it feel to be whipped rather then do the whipping? And in 8 years more then 500k immigrants came. In fact most of the Canadian population is immigrants. Lets ask native ppl yall if you could choose would keep me here or this guy? Pay rexpects yes but do you think you live in a democracy?
Ill pay rexpects to my ancestors murdered in cold blood in the name of white supremacy and imperialism. Also RIP to my niggas killed in imperial wars around the world, RIP to my famz killed in tribal wars, RIP to my niggas who died fight alongside me, RIP to all those who struggled and were put down, RIP to all them but when u go as we all will no peace to u.
edit- o shit just seen he banned so wont say nothin more cuz it aint fair if he cant respond my bad never seen that b4 OG
as for the realness of it if they say 8% then it proyl closer to 15-20 and I know my wayz at the peak of this good shit was 18-20% official figures lol by the gov so think about figures today then think about the actual figures 40-50% would be a dream lol. As for the economy me I see shit going downhill october or november gut feeling, history, and the fact that when this shit started they said right around now it wouldnt happen then the summer had a lag then boom downward trend. Reason I say this is beacuse right now there's bare debt and they're cutting away shit like medicare and social security in AmeriKKKa. Unrest is growing globally, right now the stocc markets are proly only on the rise because 1 thing bare countries have new governments and the stimulus money being handed out like cracc by the CIA. What happens when that money runs out? What about the fact that foreign countries will proly not be able to buy the estimated 800billion in US debt that they need to buy to keep it running?
If you look at a chart of the 20z and 30z you see that it peaked then dropped after the crash but there was a brief recovery or upswing for a bit no where near the peak but it proly had ppl predicting a recovery then it came down agen and didnt reach the peak till 1954. N Realize that the depression really only ended because of ww2. and if you compare that part of germany where the currency toppled hard and realize it was precisely because the money was in private hands and they short sold and at peak they were printing 50% to fund goverment budgets shit looks bleak. Britain atm is 65% I believe and AmeriKKKa is 20% and rising. Shit was posted on globalresearch.ca and a bunch of other sites. Also the dollar is being replaced by other currencies such as SDRz as a reserve currency and many countries are beginning to refuse the dollar like they did 03/04.
When the US goes bankrupt it proly wont even be because of that it will be because there no real value tied to the fiat currency they issuing. Unemployment is the real indicator because work creates value. Also see that gold and silver prices are going up surprise surprise so is inflation. So recovery? Or last hard breaths? You decide I know what ima bet on cuz she puffin like a muthafucca but last breaths are still last breaths
Rex, i really wish you wouldn't use language like in your last line.
anyway.
the economy.
i really hope that those meetings came up with some action plans to deal with the US and global banker race to the bottom of the pit.
something has to change.
while i don't have any particular fondness for Russia nor China, at this point I don't care which country in the world moves to get a separate int'l currency/currencies for trading, as long as it happens. currency controls, a good thing.

Sounds like the USSA needs an IMF structural adjustment plan.
