NDP MP quits for Ontario Liberals

Good point.  Contrary to what Nicky said, Thibeault did state some reasons.  He stated that under Layton there was more emphasis on positive politics but that under the current NDP leadership it is about partisianship and vicious attacks.  (And just look at the way NDPers attack Liberals on Babble).  What happened to love is better than hate?

Btw, I guess Nicky missed Thibeault's interview on Evan Solomon last month.  Thibeault said he'd been having issues with the NDP leadership for some time, and that Mulcair's recent impulsive idea to re-open the gun registry was something else he had a problem with.

If Glenn had been having "issues" for "sometime" and the party changed since Jack (died in 2011), why he had 3 long years to call it quits and not wait to just after he qualified for his pension.

And if the party changed, he should have taken responsibility since he had been caucas chair up until almost the moment he quit by email, no less. Oh, and he had already gone through his nomination for 2015 in the Fall of 2014, so it really shows the lack of integrity of this "leader" who only wants to serve people in Sudbury.

What a lot of hooey.

If he had been having issues, he could have stepped down and ran for the ON Libs in the spring (but than he wouldn't have qualified for his pension), and not wasted the Sudbury NDP riding executive time & money of having his nomination at the end of Sept 2014. NDP's Mulcair rallies party faithful in election-style meeting

Thibeault thanked his family for their sacrifices in allowing him to run again, and said he was ready for the next “fight.

“We need to make Canada a country we can all be proud of again,” by getting rid of the Harper government, he said.

“I look forward to sitting on the other side of the House in 2015.”

It shows he completely lacked any sense of integrity with the line "issues for a while". Really b/c a short while ago, this was Glenn at his nomination saying "he was ready for the next fight".

So since a Liberal insider has previously said, he'd been working on Glenn for 3 years, sure makes Glenn look like a snake in the grass. Sure doesn't look like someone who only wants to serve Sudbury.

And that piece of crap has backroom Toronto Liberal party written all over it.

Glenn already said he didn't want a open nomination contest b/c he feared the NDP would crap all over him and he suspected he wouldn't win.

There was so many holes in that piece written by Liberal operatives without mentioning the bribery of his emisary going to Olivier. "Glenn would like if you nominated him at the nomination meeting.

Of course let's down forget that the whole Sudbury riding association resigned enmasse, and by geez, the new riding association won't be created until 5 days before the election day.

Everybody knows that Glenn took the Liberal bribe: Cabinet position! Said elsewhere on babble and it fits Glenn T to a T:

So on a candidate by candidate bases its Liberal/Conservative opportunist vs NDP activist. It’s the difference between those who want something for their nomination and those who want to make a difference by their nomination.

Oh for goodness sakes.

You sure you don't mean "empty BETWEEN the ears"?

Winston, when NDP supporters attack Justin Trudeau every day they reveal they are afraid of him.  And here's another reason why today:

Trudeau Liberals post best fundraising results in 10 years

The fundraising is no surprise all Trudeau does is fundraise, its not like he's got a day job, oh wait...he can rely on Mulcair to do the job of standing up to Harper.

NDP politicains are just politicians, contoray to poopular belief among NDP supporters, saints didnt come from heaven to run the NDP. Plenty of NDP scandals to point to in all provinces it governed it. Glenn  Thibeault is an opportunist, but he is a politician. The party of the downtrodden has the kindness to take money from taxpayers for satellite offices, mailings, and hospitality. I am not worried about Trudeau, goodluck if the NDP wins a majority, which it wont, but lets assume for a second that it wins a minority. It will become very umpopular, very quickly.

It's true, poopular beliefs can make you very umpopular.

True to an extent, however "scandals" are one thing, corrpution another. Shoveling millions off that back of a truck to the grasping hands of waiting constituents ala Tony Clement, and the G8 cash grab, or pumping money into the hands of Quebec power brokers, in the name of "National Unity" is quite different than Svend Robinson engaging in small time kleptomania.

We are talking about the difference between systemic intentional large scale political corruption, and the failure of some NDP politicians to properly separate their political position from their personal position.

"Scandal" and "Corruption" are not the same thing. The Liberals live and breath corruption. It is the way the work. It is what they are about.

Brachina

Svends klemptomania is a clear mental health issue.

So then what does it signify when Liberal supporters spend 100% of their time attacking Mulcair and attacking the NDP as they hyperventilate from "NDP derangement syndrome"?? I guess that according to Debater it must be because deep down Liberals are scared shitless of the NDP!

Anyway, getting back to the actual topic of this thread which is Glenn Thibeault & the Sudbury by-election, David Akin reports that a Union that backed NDPer Cimino last year has apparently now moved its support to the OLP & Glenn Thibeault:

David Akin wrote:

In June, Ironworkers Local 786 in Sudbury endorsed ONDP candidate. Today, they endorse OLP’s @GlennThibeault #onpoli

The Liberals spend most of their time going after Harper, actually.

Justin Trudeau himself is giving a speech in London tonight focusing on the ways in which the Conservative economic policies have let down the people in Southwestern Ontario.  You can read about it in the Joan Bryden article I posted.

The reason Liberal supporters on this board have to go after Mulcair & the NDP sometimes is because most of the threads here consist of NDPers attacking Trudeau for everything while ignoring Mulcair's failures.

Glenn Thibeault interviewed by Evan Solomon, explaining why he's leaving the federal NDP to run for the Ontario Liberals.

btw with only an hour notice, Thibeault withdrew from the all cadidates debate. Opting instead to participate in a Liberal Party photo-op

Isn't there another open thread with the exact same topic? If so I would suggest that one of the two (probably this one) should be closed.

I have only ever seen you attack the NDP as part of your NDP dernagement syndrome - you barely ever say a word about the Tories. There are rightwing websites that are the small 'c" conservative equivalent of rabble - do you spend as much time in those sites lurking and being disruptive by attacking the Conservative party and Stephen Harper the way you attack the NDP here? If so, please provide a link - i would like to see in living colour Liberals actually picking fights with Conservtaives - it seems to be such a rare phenomenon these days

Debater

NDP derangement syndrome?

What about Liberal derangement syndrome?  Many Babblers (including yourself?) appear to have that.  You primarily attack the Liberals.

When are we going to have some threads on here that focus on going after the Conservatives and where both Liberals & NDPers can enjoy participating in them?

Back to the topic in the title of the thread, here is the endorsement today from Ironworkers Local 786:

“We believe Glenn will be a terrific MPP for the people of Sudbury,” said Armand Charbonneau, Business Manager for Ironworkers Local 786. “Glenn’s strong track record in Ottawa makes us sure he is the strongest candidate in this election and we're proud to support him in becoming our representative at Queen’s Park."

Charbonneau continued by praising Thibeault for his work, “As Sudbury MP, Thibeault has had an excellent record defending the rights of tradespeople and fighting for more jobs and better-paying jobs.”

So the Unions sell out the NDP again? And this is news, why? SO WHAT, Debater?

We, go after YOUR party, because, YOU, and YOUR party, are Conservatives in sheeps clothing, "Debater".

NDP MP Charlie Angus, who represents the northern Ontario riding of Timmins-James Bay, told HuffPost that he found Thibeault's column a "pretty sad" attempt to change the channel.

"I think it's really cheap of Glenn to try and hide behind Jack Layton," he said. "For Glenn to invoke Jack Layton to explain him being involved in such a cynical manipulation, I think, is a misuse of who Jack Layton was and what Jack Layton stood for."

After all, Angus said, Layton "hated a backroom deal."

Angus said Thibeault told him before he jumped to the Liberals that he was "reconsidering his life in politics" because he missed his family and was spending too much time in Ottawa. Now, Angus wonders if the man he "considered a friend" made that claim while cutting a deal to bypass a local nomination process.

"That's what leaves a bad taste in the mouth," he said.

Angus says people in northern Ontario "don't like being told what to think" and believes Thibeault could get that message on election day.

"But the real message should always be that you have to go back to the people who gave you that mandate and you have to be true to them," Angus said. "He wasn't true to them and I think that he'll pay the price for that."

According to the NDP, Layton's mother, Doris, also wrote to Thibeault to express her disappointment.

"VERY DISAPPOINTED. MY SON JACK WOULD NOT CONDONE YOUR MOVE – HIS MUM DORIS," she wrote in a message shared with the party.

Look at this kind of nastiness and baiting- just the Liberal way I suppose. But at some point they will pay the price. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
