spinning Harper's conservative senate majority.
Harper now has a Majority in the Senate and presumably can use it for years to defeat or hold up center leaning or left leaning bills. Even if the conservatives get defeated in the next election.
Perhaps that perception can be used to cut away at the large center leaning fringe of harpers voters?
Right leaning People who are scared of Harper continued ignoring of democratic principles can now safely vote to the left of their principles. To be rid of Harper and still have the conservative senate majority to save them from the worst of "leftwing lunacy".
I am personally concerned that Harper is a monster. His only principle is power. Even with a minority government, he has used some of the stimulus money to build a "prison and police" state of hightened anxiety to get ready for a mexican "war on drugs" economy.
Even the police are scared of his relaxing of long gun regulation and control.
Perhaps 1/4 of the citizens of Canada toke mary jane every year. 10,000 extra deaths per year in a drug war and 50,000 extra prisoners in jaol is not going to change the numbers.
But that is the future that Harper is working for.
Lets do all we can to defeat him. He is nutso.
You said it, Mr. White.
I like it. It goes to show you how useless an elected senate would be. It would be the US all over again with gridlock and nothing progressive getting done. Just lobby money dictating what policies get passed. If the senate starts holding up bills from the elected HOC then we can finally abolish the useless overpriced senate.
