babble is rabble.ca's discussion board but it's much more than that: it's an online community for folks who just won't shut up. It's a place to tell each other — and the world — what's up with our work and campaigns.
With something like 2500 nuclear power plant on the drawing boards, heading for a meltdown, it is a good time to get of the grit. As is we pay for the past nuclear mistakes on our electricity bills here in Ontario, with many more mistakes destined to come.

They've got more nuke power generating stations than any country. And they still need Canada to export massive amounts of hydroelectric power to Northern States. In fact, Canada is a net exporter of power to the U.S. And we're sinking billions of taxpayer dollars into nuclear expansion projects here in Canada, even though we send surplus power and oil and gas to the U.S. for song. The U.S. needs our fossil fuels and hydro at bargain basement prices so they can afford more bottomless nuclear money pits themselves. Capitalism doesn't look so good without bright lights and glitz appeal.
The 't' always seemed a bit greener then the 'd', in that it takes less ink to print.
But on the screen it probably makes little difference. Fourty percent nuke powered around here.

A good point, Fidel. Here in ontario about five percent of our hydro bill goes towards paying off the past hydro debt charges. I wonder if the US pays that too when they import ontario electricity. If they did not, would that be grounds for a class action by ontario rate payers to get their contributions back?

Do you have anything to back that up?
I'm pretty sure we sell oil and gas at world market rates. Power prices are more complex as they vary from hour to hour, but I've never heard anything to suggest the US doesn't pay enough for our power.
