1,000 Canadian troops to join NATO brigade in Latvia

Doubling down on their frothing, foaming, rabid Russophobia, increasing the already bloated military spending, selling weapons of death to the Saudi regime that beheads queers for who they are, the Liberals are demonstrating that when it comes to keeping capital "safe" they are great managers. But it also provides an opening for the genuine left, not the fake left in Parliament, to organize against these policies. This is an opportunity.

We have work to do.

There will never be a strong, independent Canadian Peace Movement, or any other strong independent movement here because as is the pattern with Canadian activism, there is always an elite which decides which voices are heard and which suppressed....

...this only reminds me of the plenary at the past Canada Social Forum in Ottawa on the issue of Peace...whereas I brought up a number of serious issues, the voice coming out of this plenary was nothing but a jumble of harmless platitudes, thanks to these elites!

This must not happen at the upcoming forum in Montreal!....

...We have work to do!.....yes but how? Organization of some form must be initiated...political organization...maybe with a parliamentary aspect, but based in grass roots movement activities and policy discussions....

Yes, the ruling ideas are those of the ruling elite. It's a fight all the way. However, other struggles have been successful, and made their way forward despite the resistance. I think it's a mistake on your part to put things in this way, just as it is a mistake for athletes to self talk themselves into defeat.

Some details would be helpful if you are willing to share.

Seek out the anti-war and/or peace orgs in your area and help build them. If there isn't one - create it.

Yes, actually I'm working related to the WSM right now.

The antiwar movement here (in Québec) seems to be in quite a slump, after high levels of mobilisation a decade ago. And I think the infatuation with Trudeau - not an odd phenomenon, given how glad many people were to see the back of Harper and his wrecking crew - is not helping matters.

...yes how convenient! So we get this straight shooting fascist type for a while...then the media gets too embarassed, so we get a sweet natured smiling faced friendly type for a while, until the media of course gets pissed at what a wimp! We need more guns!

so we go back to a hardliner for a while...and heaven forbid the people actually start rising up...so the 'authorities' may have to call on an Obama type, the NDP always waiting in the wings as long of course as they can keep their 'flakes' in check...whew will Canadians ever wake up to reality? That the system is rigged by the moneyed elites! That we have to get creative!

Thanks krop,

You are correct. This is what a fake-left does. Protects and defends power.

Hear that Unionist? In asking for a title change, you were protecting and defending power.

I'd simply repeat what i already said: it would have been polite for whoever changed the thread title (actually changed it, rather than asking for it to be changed) to have posted a quick note. Changing titles without a word to the community is much ruder than a few utterances of the word "fuck."

I'm guessing a new thread with "Canada's servile parliament" in the title would be fine. Much-needed, actually, as we sure do have a servile parliament. Back in the day, there used to be a few dissenters (J.S. Woodsworth, etc.). Are there any left in parliament?

I asked for the title change, for two reasons: 1. It was impossible to tell from the thread title what it was actually about, so people interested in the actual discussion might pass it by. 2. The conversation was going down the road of whether Obama is a fascist or not, and whether "fuck" should be in thread titles.

So, I plead guilty. I thought this was an incredibly important conversation to have. And contrary to krop's post above, nothing prevents anyone and everyone from commenting on the compliance by parliament with imperial dictates.

In fact, I tried to raise that issue by asking where the NDP and Greens are at (should have added the BQ, but they generally support any imperial adventures) - why can't we actually have that conversation?

I wrote to Boulerice asking what his position was - and got no reply.

How exactly does the "opposition" get off scot free on an event like Canada building up troop strength on Russia's borders??

Bullshit. You could have simply started your own thread with this nice neutered title. It's done all the time. Or even had the decency to  PM me and make your pitch. Instead your mod minion was 'asked' to change it. We know why. Wonder what they'd say if I asked them to change one of your thread titles? They do your will here I notice. Money probably what else. The position of Boulerice and the rest of the imperial fan-club is abundantly clear from their rapturous clapping and shit-eating happy faces. Now have whatever conversation you like...

This is my sense as well. Take out the "f" words and put in servile parliament would work for me. I spent 15 years working at the constituency level to send first Svend and then Bill to parliament to speak truth to power. Bill was demoted and ostracized because he was a man of principle.  I believed then and I believe now that it is better to send a few voices to parliament to speak the truth than a 100 MP's to replicate the neo-con parties in a quest for power.

I would assume that "fuck" was taken out of the title in order to not get penalized by search engines & various filters (ie. parental controls and such).  This is a pretty standard practice.

Case in point; MP George Galloway in the UK.

The love-in was a little nauseating. Like some sort of 'groupthink' taking place. In a national legislative chamber.

IMO it should be standard parliamentary practice not to give standing ovations to what visiting dignitaries say in the House of Commons, whoever it may be, whether it's Malala or Trump, until the end of the address.

No speaker would feel slighted, no MP would feel rude not standing up.

For sometime I have thought its very stupid policy to use NATO agaisnt Russia, besides the obvious worries of war. I have thought that there will be many ugly unforseen consequenes.  Plus the talk about by the US that China must be contained.  Consequences like maybe pushing on russia and china at the same time would mean the china and russia would put aside there mutual differnces and start building a stronger bond.  China and russia have been becoming closer in the economic space.  If the following article is to be believed the Chinesse have had their fill of US wild talk.  I think this a credible source of news but you decide.

The leader of China

“We are currently observing the USA’s aggressive actions, both in regards of Russia and China. I believe that Russia and China can create an alliance before which NATO would be weak, and this would put an end to the imperialist ambitions of the West” stated Xi Jinping.

I always thought that Russia would start talking about this first bacause of ukraine and syria situation.  If this ever happens the balance of power in the world change overnight.  Russian military tech and vast natural resources combined with vast industrial capacity and manpower of china.

...I'm sorry but Parliament is a totally corrupt institution, built from money and those who have it, the corruption of the MSM and the oligarchs behind it...what is needed is a political movement to demand a reorganization of the democratic, real democratic, institutions of Governance...one or 2 sane voices in Parliament? Screw that! voices in the wind, unlistened to, unreported...

meanwhile we must be building alternative institutions of governance...til our models are instituted...

piecemeal changes? One must be kidding...the institutions of governance 100 % corrupt will never undermine its own corruption......

Change will come only from the grass roots and in active protest...the system is rigged and will drive us to destitution and desperation...it must be transformed!

When will we begin?

So the NDP is supporting this aggressive imperialist action. How unsurprising. What traitors they are to Canada and the cause of peace.

Quote:

NDP Defence critic Randall Garrison also welcomed Canada’s new role in Eastern Europe, saying it’s important that Canada continue to be an active member in the alliance. But he questioned how it squares with the government’s overall vision for the military and defence, all of which is still up in the air.

“What is our larger strategy not just for Russia, but with the wider world?” he asked. “It’s our lack of clarity of where we’re going that leads to the arm twisting.”

At the same time, both critics questioned whether Canada is investing enough in the military to sustain the commitment and whatever other operations the government plans to undertake.

Bastard.
