Can a moderator change the title to "Part 15"?

It would be about as popular as it was a little over a year ago during the last election campaign. Opinion polls showed that a large majority of Canadians oppose Canada's participation in this US-led phony war, and yet the Harpers still won an exaggerated minority government in an election marked by one of the lowest voter turnouts in recent Canadian history.

I speculate the average Canadian understands none of the major political parties will not completely withdrawal Canada from Afghanistan.

I speculate that you are jaded by previous governments and their flip-flops, from Mulroney breaking his promise not to open up free trade talks with the US to the Liberals who promised to reverse Mulroney's betrayal, GST, and betraying their promise to create more transparent and accountable government in Ottawa. There is now widespread cynicism in Canada as a result, and this is the way it is supposed to be. We are encouraged not to participate in elections and to believe the situation is hopeless as our two old line parties continue to pursue policies for powerlessness and corrupt government in Ottawa.

Fidel, yes I am jaded. I do not trust any of current political party leaders with may the expection of Gilles Duceppe.

Edit: I would not trust him to keep the country together by the way.

Well I can see you not trusting Liberals and Tories with your vote based on their performance records in government, but

I tend to want to lay blame where blame is due when it applies. And in this case, blame for gross mismanagement of the economy and foreign policies can be attributed to those same two mirror image old line parties who've been running this Northern Panama for the last 140 years in a row non-stop.

I think you've transferred some of that mistrust to the federal social democrats. If you need to examine a social democrat record as an example to go by, look to the Nordic countries.

Hey Webgear, since there's already a thread of the "The Afghan people will win" variety, I'm going to simply delete the part 15, since this is a new thread title (if not topic) to have the issues of Canada and Afghanistan discussions take place.

Or someone who knows how to merge threads can do that.

Maysie, you can close this thread of you want.

I suppose one thread at a time is marvel enough on its own to behold the richness of human gullability.

Webgear,

So I had my rant on The Afghan people will win - Part 15 and I support your effort to start a new thread with a better title.  I was going to start a new thread myself (but did not out of silly deference to others) and I was trying to think of the best title for such a thread.

IMHO, the Afghans have won the war. Or maybe we just lost it.  Whatever. Let's deal with it.

I supported the effort to get Osama Bin Laden.  I even supported the invasion of Iraq, mainly because Saddam Hussien was a bastard that needed to be held to account.  It's just too bad the US found him and not someone else.

Canada has made mistakes in Afghanistan, but then so has almost everyone else.  Now, the Afghans don't like us. They don't want us there. We are an occupying foreign army. The Karzi regime is not worth supporting. What the fuck is our mission now?

The best way to support our troops is to call for their return home ASAP.  I pay my respects to all those that have served on this mission. You have in no way failed us and I know you, with the exception of a few generals, have done your very best to make things better.

A lot of us want the same thing.  Let the debate begin with What is the best title for this thread (or the next)?

Over to you Webgear!
