"Canada for Haiti" fundraiser. What a sick fucking joke!

Watching the 'Canada for Haiti' fundraiser on CBC is nauseating. Considering that the CBC and other "news" organizations here have done almost nothing to expose the neocolonial role that Canada played(and continues to play) in the exploitation of Haiti. The coup that deposed the elected President Jean Bertrand Aristide was conceived in Otttawa. Canadian troops assisted in the coup. Canadian troops support the Haitian government, which has banned the Lavalas Party from participating in Haiti's elections, despite the fact that Lavalas is the first choice among the overwhelming majority of Haitians.

Canada, you are an ignorant, smug and self satisfied JOKE!

You can contact the "Right Honourable" Paul Martin who made all this possible at paulmartin@paulmartin.ca. Thank him, on behalf of the Haitian people, for Canada's 'help' in PERPETUATING THE EXPLOITATION OF THE HAITIAN PEOPLE.

Why Martin?  You do realize he hasn't been prime minister for four years now...don't you?

Canada, France and the U.S. ousted Aristide back in 1994.  Paul Martin was Prime Minister at the time.

Paul Martin was Prime Minister from 2003 to 2006.  Looks like "rabble-rouser" is a newcomer to Canada.

Yes, three years in office wanting to be Prime Minister.

As  for the fundraiser, charity without a critical analysis and strategies for effective change only perpetuate the problem but then that is the game.

A better quality of rant would be greatly appreciated.

Rick Salutin has a good article about charity for Haiti: http://rabble.ca/columnists/2010/01/we-all-fail-failed-state-test

"This is the perennial underside of charity and generosity: a chance to feel simultaneously kind and morally superior while reinforcing the relations between those who have power and those who don't. Plus a component of taking vicarious pleasure, in a quasi porn-like way, in the misery of others. I'm thinking here of the insatiable news programming and the repeated requests by interviewers to "Tell us how you feel.""

You're right, I screwed up the dates, I intended 2004 not 1994.
