I watched "Days of Heaven" with my grandmother one time. Her only comment: "They're making those stooks all wrong". Funny how when you are actually familiar with something you automatically notice that stuff. It's like the American TV shows where they dress people they way they think they should be for -35.

Speaking which, I remember driving a big, beefy weightlifter to distraction one time because he didn't understand the principle that most of the force goes into the swing and letting momentum do the work, not trying your damndest to drive the blade into the wood. He couldn't handle the fact that a guy half his size was splitting rounds he could barely dent.
Exactly. And for the record, I was not so cruel as to not explain it to him. But he still had a hard time with seeing it.
Frankly, when I am cutting wet wood, by the time it hits most of my energy is going into holding the axe back from flying off into the bush, not pushing it forward.
I often wish we bordered on those Scandanavian countries, rather than our gun-crazed elephant to our South. But then we would have to travel farther to get to Disneyland.
