G20 and Korea
We introduce President Barack Obama to you today.
President Obama was elected into office in January, 2009,
as the first African-American President of the United States of America.
He set goals to provide more economic opportunities for ordinary citizens
and introduced many legislations for ordinary citizens.
He was selected as the most respected person in the world by American citizens.
Also, in October of 2009, barely 10 months after his election, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, proving his exceptional ability in foreign policies and international cooperation.
Moreover, President Obama set an example for the world by demonstrating a positive and active stance at the 4th Toronto G-20 International Summit. Although not directly accomplished by President Obama, in November of 2008, the United States hosted the first G-20 Summit in Washington D.C. successfully and received many positive feedbacks.
The atmosphere in Republic of Korea has been tense in preparation for this international event. And President Obama, with his practical experience, has been an ardent supporter of Korea. We expect to see President Obama leading the G-20 Summit with great leadership and fruitful achievement.
Hi triplejump.
I'm Maysie and I will be your moderator for today. And the foreseeable future.
Welcome to babble.
I'm going to assume that the 10 duplicate posts on this topic that you posted at 5am were errors rather than spamming.
However, given your other two posts, you seem to be very favourable regarding the G20 countries themselves, as well as posting positive information about the upcoming G20 talks in Korea.
babble is a critical, progressive, left-leaning and pro-human discussion forum. The countries represented by the G20 represent the elites, not the marginalized communities in their countries. Of course I include Canada in that statement. Policies the G20 "leaders" support are in no way good for humans, or the planet. I need to tell you that there will be little to no support for your position here, and possibly a lot of arguing. I wonder if this is the right discussion board for you.
I changed the thread title. Now I'm wondering if I should have just closed all the threads started by triplejump.
i'm not sure what the post is even supposed to be about, other than a glowing appraisal of obama and the g20. is this a quote? or is it the posters view? who knows...
All I can say is the battles between the protesters (student groups and workers unions) and the security forces (national police riot force) at this G20 is going to make the one in Toronto look rather tame. It's going to look like two medieval armies fighting each other.
Protests to baffle police during G20
Here we go again.
According to the National Police Agency (NPA), several civic and interest organizations have registered to hold rallies during the event, which will run from Nov. 11 to 12. It estimated that the number of protesters could reach 10,000.
....
As previous G20 meetings held in London and Toronto experienced violent protests, fears of a similar situation in Seoul are worrying police and clashes with “progressive” groups are expected on Nov. 11, the opening day of the summit
Police are especially worried about demonstrations turning violent and protesters attempting to enter the summit venue — the Coex.
A total of 50,000 police officers including 20,000 riot police will be deployed for the summit. The NPA had previously announced that from Nov. 8 to 12, all rallies and demonstrations within a 2-kilometer radius of the COEX will be banned. Thirty-eight checkpoints will be set up in areas within a 600-meter radius from the site to block demonstrators from approaching the venue.
I'm closing this and banning triplejump. Just because I finally figured it out.
