Pictures tell a story

Having more than a passing interest in photography I regularly check out The Lens blog on the NY Times site.

So today after seeing the photos today( I usually watch the slideshow first on fullscreen) then read the article.

I thought I wonder how Babblers would react to these pictures.

By the way my personal opinon is that the pictures are really great but I don't know how much my gut reaction to them is due to my ignorance.

The photo demonstrate suggest history has happened while we thought we were watching. The South is rising. I hope they're not too, too pissed off over all that stuff still running under the bridge.

I don't total follow yr comment FM

- my impression was that it kind of feels like colonialism, not as bad as European but then especially the last 2 pictures give a different slant to that possible angle on the story - I guess each person would see them differently which is what makes it so interesting to me

I agree there is a colonial characterisic to it. But it is Chinese not Western colonialism. The influence of the West is in decline while the influence of the East, and South, is in ascendancy. It signifies a historic development passing almost unnoticed.
