babble is rabble.ca's discussion board but it's much more than that: it's an online community for folks who just won't shut up. It's a place to tell each other — and the world — what's up with our work and campaigns.

Hey everyone

Didn't posted an introduction before, so might as well do it now.

I'm an American of "progressive" persuasion who's interested in international politics along with Canadian politics. Thinking this forum will be of great help to me towards learning more. Also have a bit of fondess for Canada, may immigrate in the future.

That's odd.  I've never seen the words "interest"  and "Canadian Politics" put so closely together.

Wink

Welcome, have fun.

Haha, well I do have a general interest in international politics, and a close interest in continental politics, which includes Canada.

Thanks for the welcome!

Michelle, if you're reading this, Michael Ignatieff has managed to post on babble under your name. Surprised

Ha!  I was thinking that after I posted. :D  It was supposed to be a gesture of hospitality, like my house is your house.

Then I realized, hmm, problematic statement on two levels - first as a settler and descendent of colonizers, is it really "my country" to welcome people to on every level?  And secondly, Canada is NOT America.

But I think, in casual conversation with a nice person who says he or she wants to move here someday, we could probably take my words as I meant them - as a gesture of welcome, as opposed to an invitation for the American government to invade Canada.  But thanks for your concern!

Oh I have no intention of bringing American governance to Canada. Trust me, I hate our politics here quite a lot.

Am descended from  Selkirk Settlers and Hudson Bay people circa 1750-1800, also United Empire Loyalists from the U.S.A. circa 1760-70, so I guess I belon in Canada, and am always happy to hear from people who might like to join us! Do think very hard

about coming here.

Of course one should always consider carefully any situation they're thrusting themselves into. Just curious though, why did you emphasis that?

By "this person", I'm guessing you mean me eh? Wink

Is Canada in need of more people?

We can use more folks here on Quebec's Lower North Shore, and I think the far north like us is always in need of more folks with  defined skills such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, teachers, doctors, nurses, dentists, etc.... Unfortunately, folks tend to gravitate towards the big cities instead.
