How about the EU as a peace broker in the mid-east?

Israel warns EU over East Jerusalem dispute

Quote:

Sweden, the current EU president, is floating an initiative to recognize east Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital. The Israeli daily Haaretz reported Tuesday that Sweden will seek approval at an EU meeting in Brussels next week.

The EU wording would also support the Palestinian claim for a state based on the 1967 border between Israel and the West Bank.

I don't think the US or Barak Obama can be an honest peace broker in the mid-east.  Fourty years of failure is enough.  I think the EU could do a better job.

On another note, I remember, years back, when Joe Clark want to relocate the Canadian embassy to East Jerusalem. He also called Israel an apartheid state.

Ain't it remarkable about how some things change and other things remain the same?

I like the idea. Another good idea is the U.N. The biggest stumbling block in both cases though, is going to be the U.S.

Hope the EU moves on this, as it is definitely a push back againt the Israel and the US/Canada's complicity.

I don't think the Israelis want European participation in any peace talk as the European presence would give apartheid foes in Europe a platform to call for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions against Israel.  The Israelis would rather have Egyptian or US mediators if Israel wishes to participate in active negotiations.

Laughing

BP knows all about Iran so they should be especially well placed to negotiate on behalf of the enslaved people in that country.

After reports reached Jerusalem that the Palestinian Authority is trying to persuade about a dozen European Union member states to upgrade the PA's diplomatic status, the Foreign Ministry on Monday ordered every Israeli envoy abroad to begin "urgent" diplomatic activity. The aim is to thwart Palestinian efforts at drafting a United Nations resolution that would recognize a unilateral declaration of statehood and put international pressure on Israel to halt settlement construction.

No, it's not from WikiLeaks.
