babble is rabble.ca's discussion board but it's much more than that: it's an online community for folks who just won't shut up. It's a place to tell each other — and the world — what's up with our work and campaigns.
Ok, let me know if I am wrong here. Reading through the forum, it appears that if you are not left leaning and agree with left "philosophy" then your opinion is not welcome here. Am I correct?
rabble.ca is a public, independent, progressive news and information source. In defining itself as "progressive," rabble.ca embraces a pro-human rights, pro-feminist, anti-racist, queer-positive, anti-imperialist and pro-labour stance, and as such encourages discussions which develop and expand progressive thought.
babble: discussion board
As part of rabble.ca, babble was created to ensure that readers and participants could explore a wide range of issues of interest and concern in interactive and dynamic ways.
babble is NOT intended as a place where the basic and fundamental values of human rights, feminism, anti-racism and labour rights are to be debated or refought. Anyone who joins babble who indicates intentions to challenge these rights and principles may be seen as disruptive to the nature of the forum.
Most conservative posters on here end up as simply being trolls. They usually accuse someone of lying even though they have incomplete info. Sound llike anyone you know Gerry?

I'm not a conservative. As a matter of fact, the con boards don't like me much since I am anti war. You know, pro-life. Most people don't like having their hypocracies pointed out to them.
The hypocrisy's, from both sides of the political spectrum, would be supporting the killing of some and loudly condemning the killing of others.
Not that this is the place for this discussion - it is not - but the principle of a person's autonomy over his or her body is quite consistent. And currently, despite constant onslaughts, that's also how the principle is understood under Canadian law.
That's about as much as I am willing to contribute to any shitstorm on that closed subject.
Now I had ignorant fuckers at my doorstep in the last couple of days leaving nasty pictures where my kids could find them. And worse, trying to pass off John Paul II as "Polish philosopher Karol Wojtyla". This is bullshit.

You know, 6079, when you engage a troll in serious discussion for even 1 second, the troll wins. That's why it's important to simply mock and ridicule Gerryhurt, so he can't go back and tell his drinking buddies how he turned babble upside down for a few minutes. That's assuming anyone will drink with him...

You are right. I made that mistake on another subject here.
Pistols at dawn? Obviously another lackey of the gun lobby. You want to check out oversized cutlerly... it makes a more entertaining spectacle for the witnesses.
It should come as absolutely no surprise that bagkitty has always been a fan of SFDT (Stick Figure Death Theatre).
kind of a shame not to have engaged this person a little more before the boot. i have a cousin, this maniacally principled dude, he literally studies the greeks (uh, ancient) for insights into the moral life, and he's come to some pretty bizarre and regressive conclusions. but he can totally be convinced, and he has been. this guy here (obviously male) feels like that a little, it's a shame people derided his (obvious) ignorance so quickly.
and it's not exactly like rabble is hopping with activity these days. i mean, i remember before the whole audra trower debacle a while back - uh, was it 2003? - this place was rocking with dozens of posts an hour, these days, fora don't move for days at a time. is it something to do with the culture?
addendum: what happened to babblestrike/enmasse anyway? seems like a very very side project for like 1-2 people. it took me a sick-in-bed afternoon to catch myself up on several years of exchanges (hephaestion died! man.) it's a shame that canada can barely support a single progressive board, but probably more of a shame that our left is so fractious and unwilling to engage that the single board was nuked years ago and hasn't yet recovered. say what you will about the right, their slavish valorization of authority does tend to make them pretty effective organizers.

Culture at large? Yes. Culture of babble? I doubt it. babble is holding up better than other message boards I've posted on. Some of their fora now sits idle for months at a time. The main one I particpated in over the past 5 or 6 years recently locked 13 of it's fora, leaving just a few announcement fora and one 'General' forum for discussion. Even with that consolidation, the front page of that forum, which shows the 50 most recently active threads, is currently displaying threads that haven't had any new posts in 6 weeks. Just a couple years ago it would have been rare to have found a thread on the front page that had been idle for more than 24 hours.
Ok...I get it then. Toe the line, follow the crowd, and don't you dare have a mind or opinion of your own.
as an add on.... I don't think ANYONE has the "right" to kill another human being.

I'll forgive just about any sin, personally - but failure to use spellcheck?
I'm not even going to bother with that prime example of tiny brain syndrome.
And I won't even quote your post and add one of my own!
ETA:
Oh sorry, Gerry, I only just now got it. You think "hypocracy" and "democracy" are related! Good one!
Oh, I know, you think you're a comedian. Don't quit your day job.
The hypocrisy's, from both sides of the political spectrum, would be supporting the killing of some and loudly condemning the killing of others.
Wrong. The iconic anti-leftist chant is: "Get a job!" Kindly get with the program.
Wrong. Read up on the difference between "plural" and "possessive". I know, I know, those p-words...
Er, a spectrum doesn't actually have two sides. There's a metaphor to be had there somewhere - keep reaching and I'm sure you'll manage it!
Well, at this point, your humour is killing us all, so no worries about hippocrazy in your case!

Then I guess they'll be rolling in the aisle when he tells them how he got us fighting each other, right?
How dare you? Why, I never! Sputter! Pistols at dawn!!
Bye troll.
