The American inspiration behind Uganda's gay execution bill

The African nation of Uganda is weighing a bill that would impose the death penalty on HIV positive men who have committed what it calls "aggravated homosexuality."

As if that were not shocking enough, a U.S. author is claiming that a secretive group of American politicians appear to be a driving force in seeing the proposal become law.

 

It's worth mentioning that should you be an HIV-negative gay man in Uganda, you could already be sentenced to life imprisonment under the existing law.

No discussion on the Uganda bill since November?

There are some good (dated) comments over here about whether or not Western activists are focusing enough or too much about the role of colonialism... either the british colonial anti-sodomy law variety, or the US-colonial-family-values-activists variety.

Uganda is a US proxy power in the region, most famous for being the staging ground for the invasion/regime change op in Rwanda and the installation of Paul Kagame. As such it is highly receptive to US influence including unfortunately sinister Christian soldiers such as apparently recommended this anti-gay hate campaign
