It's time for everyone to read the book "The Family" by Jeff Sharlet.
They have had an affiliation with religions all along, after all they gave government run initiatives to churchs to run, such as low income housing. They had also gave contracts for independant living to some religions too, but they fucked things up so badly in some areas, they had to have the contracts stripped from them. Some religious groups are also heavily involved in group foster home situations funded by the government.
They are just playing to the religious base, as everyone else is pissed.
If I was a FN BCer and I read that I'd be sure to tell anyone I know never to vote Liberal again.
They weren't anyway, the BC Grand Chiefs endorsed James in the last election.
They realized that Gordo was trying to play them for the fool and exploit them.
The Liberals thought it important enough to pretend to support FN land claims. So they must have thought they'd fool some people.
They did for a time, but their actions caught up with them. But the gig was up by the time of the last provincial election.
Prayer isn't unique to the BC leg:

New Democrats, and indeed all Canadians, pray for the quick recovery of those injured. The gratitude we feel for the work these soldiers were doing in Kandahar can never be fully expressed.
If praying to God can heal injured invading soliders, why can't it help guide legislators on the path of righteousness?
