Harper has an inferiority complex when it comes to foreign policy in relation to the U.S.A. Canada's foreign policy is a slavish mini me version of the U.S.A.'s. That's why sometimes Harper tries to out U.S.A. the U.S.A. when it comes to foreign policy.
The war is causing chaos in Afghanistan. Chaos in Afghanistan is causing conflict in Pakistan. Conflict in Pakistan is causing trouble (Mumbai terrorist attack, fighting in Kashmir) in India.
Russia is the largest and most resource wealthy country in the world. Russia has a large population and a large military. Russia is a nuclear power.
China is the country with the largest population in the world. China's economy is (still) the fastest growing in the world. China is a nuclear power. Russia and China have an economic and military alliance with each other. Other Asian countries say, "If the Chinese piss in the ocean, we will all drown."
India is the country that has the second largest population in the world. India is (still) a rapidly growing economic power. India is a nuclear power. India and China are on fairly good terms with each other.
So let's follow the U.S.A.'s example and piss Russia, China and India off.

Because of voting demographics in the prairies, and ON. They identified a wedge issue in order to consolidate votes, and then furthered the divisional wedge that would get people to actually vote against their best interests in order to feed old racist and vengence desires that should have been out dated long ago and have absolutely no place in Canadian political realities. How smart is that?
Views attributed to "analysts and former senior diplomats" are almost always self-serving and wrong. This article's a case in point.
