Cost of Afghan war now a state secret
Cost of Afghan war now a state secret, Tories say. NDP files complaint to release figures.
In a significant policy shift, the Canadian government now believes that telling the country's taxpayers the future cost of the war in Afghanistan would be a threat to national security, Canwest News Service has learned. The Defence Department cited a national security exemption when it censored a request under the Access to Information Act by the federal NDP for the military costs of Canada's military participation in the NATO-led, United Nations-sanctioned military mission to Afghanistan.
I really hate the sold out mainstream media's George Orwellian "1984" 'goodspeak'.
It does seem silly to classify the cost of the war.

Can we really assign a dollar value to forcing democracy on another country US-style? I don't think we can, but Afghans might do some time down the road if they are ever able to sue our stooges in an international court of some future kind.

You might find this interesting:
Last year, the military estimated the incremental cost for 2009-10 to be $261-million and for 2010-11 at $150-million but did not address the costs for 2011-12. This year, it blanked out those numbers.
Could this be an indication that, even now, Harper is financially preparing for the possibility that he and the Conservatives will assume office yet again after the next election and that he is preparing (along with Liberal support) to escalate Canada's military engagement in Afghanistan beyond 2011? Could the redacted numbers be an indication that Harper realizes that this issue is political dynamite and is trying to hide this from the Canadian public?
I hope we pull out on time and I would also like for Harper to pull Canada out of NATO the WTO as well as a host of other useless "world" entities.
I think we need to mind our business and only respond militarily if Canada is attacked directly.

Is the war in Afghanistan NATO's 'graveyard?' NATO's credibility on the line April
