A Vancouver-area father has been found guilty of negligence causing bodily harm after botching a home-circumcision attempt on his four-year-old son as part of a spiritual quest to make things right with God....The man testified in court that, after the boy consented to the circumcision, he fed him some mead - a biblical beverage made from honey - lay him on the kitchen floor, stretched his penis across a cutting board and cut off part of the foreskin. When asked in court whether the man used ice to ease the boy's pain, he replied, "Where would the Israelites have found ice?"
A single-handed facepalm isn't enough.
Oh, great - a thread about parents mutilating their children, citing spiritual commands! I got one:
Jail says Texas mom competent for trial
Now that is hardly fair unionist.....
And a general interest site with lots and lots of links (sorry Unionist, the urge to one up you was irresistable).
If this was a story about a girl being forced to have a clitorectomy, it would not be being treated, as if it was tabloid journalism.
Genital mutilation is an issue.
And most have them for religious reasons, zealotry or not.
If the mother had done one on herself first, it probably would. Besides, it's not quite the same thing. Boys can be circumcized without sexual or health problems later and that's definitely not the case for girls.

I realize that everyone has the right to a lawyer and I shouldn't be getting angry at lawyers for taking unpopular cases, but why am I not surprised that Doug Christie is defending this wack job?
