You could at least have dressed this up a bit so that it didnt look like bare self promotion of ones hobby horse.
Congratulations Paul - keep up the good work! One of these days we'll come to our senses and stop using airplanes and automobiles for these short hops.
And Ken, I don't think hobby horses are a good means of transport either.
Depends on what you are wanting to transport.
You could at least have dressed this up a bit so that it didnt look like bare self promotion of ones hobby horse.
Someone with a valuable objective and who speaks from tireless efforts to move government and citizen over many years, directly, without endless circumlocution. I can see why you would find this self-promotion, KS.
I don't know if VIA rail is ready for fast trains.
Rick Mercer on "bullet trains". Hee hee.
You can count on VIA Rail for the same low-speed train service that we had when we incorporated in 1977.
......
VIA Rail. Yesterday's speeds. Today.
Unionist, rock out.
Yeah, not abusing psychiatric people is my HOBBY HORSE because I took a crowd dose of pepper spray and a truncheon to the head leaving a pool of blood 1 metre in diameter.
I guess I should quite being so SELFISH and EGOTISTICAL in trying to get pinheads in the media to stop writing SCHIZOPHRENIC when they mean DUPLICITOUS.
Somebody has come up with something of a reality check on the idea of HSR in Canada, and has proposed a solution:
Our American HSR partners are also likely to come to the conclusion that certain segments of track do not merit immediate electrification. For example, the route north of Albany to Montreal will be very expensive to build and operate, and the only way to make it economically viable may be to push off the electrification phase until later. Even if the Americans decided to electrify the entire network immediately, there could be an engine change at the border to allow train sets to continue into Canadian territory with only a few minutes delay for passengers. A hybrid system could exist for a long time and would allow HSR train sets to run on conventional rail in areas where dedicated HSR infrastructure would not yet exist.

Downtown Toronto to downtown Montreal in < 3hrs, at a competitive price, would be worth the investment in improved infrastructure. Electrification could make sense within urban corridors that also run regional commuter trains. Germany has a good system of rail integration.
i drool at the thought of hsr from quebec to three rivers to montreal to ottawa to toronto to kitchener to london, that would be a dream come true. though the problem is the cost - ridership would have to be pretty high for prices to be anything like reasonable, barring big-time subsidy. this is precisely the reason we need an ndp government, this is the sort of thing that would be plusses all around.
As usual windsor is ignored :( Anyway, they are talking about a midwest highspeed rail in the US. Chicago to Detroit(Windsor is 1 km away for those that don't know their geography so well) And one up the eastern seaboard. We could run a loop from windsor (chicago start ) to halifax and spur down to new jersey. Could do a lot to revitalize a lot of areas. The sadest part is we produce leading edge bullet trains and don't even use them in our GIANT country. Want to have less worry about terrorism and air travel, train is stuck on rails. Yes you could hijack one, but a lot less easy to crash into a sky scraper.
You can still crash a train packed with expolsives into a factory, or crash it into a big station like Union Station or Penn Station-it is possible.

Yes the Brits and CIA should cease infiltrating these terrorist groups only to nothing about it in the end, like 3/11 in Madrid, 9/11 in NYC etc.
