I think the problem is that the Canadian-Tamil financiers, and if true, are not "licenced" to finance terrorism, like Al-CIA'da, and Amoco, BP, Exxon, Unocal, Brits, wealthy Saudi families of al-Alamoudi and Pakistani elites etc. Thambithurai probably just needs to grease a few palms in Ottawa and Washington first.

There are natural laws and there are laws created by our politicians because they can't come up with anything better or have to listen to powerful interested groups.
Similar cases have been carried out on Australian Tamils as well. The Australian court acknowledged that funding Humanitarian operation in LTTE administered area without the funds being directly or indirectly getting to the hands of the LTTE was impossible and the case was thrown out. The case became so heated that NGOs who were working in LTTE administered area feared that they would end up in court as well.

I hope that all the stupid, heartless, canucklehead me-firsters that complained about the Tamil rallies in Toronto, now realize that the calls for solidarity and help that were LARGELY ignored, were about preventing what we were then told WAS HAPPENING and what we now KNOW DID HAPPEN in Sri Lanka. It is too bad that these hearts and minds are so distressingly inert and untroubled by such things..as for their 'representatives' well they are only as good as those they 'represent' right?

I keep seeing a debate about whether these people are in fact real refugees from the media, politicians and the public. People who should know better are included among those askingasking.
The answer requires no investigation and is one of logic.
We have understood and accepted that they have paid huge sums of money that is their life-savings in many cases to get on board a ship that is so-over capacity that nobody could board it without understanding that they are risking their lives by doing so. They are then going to a new country away from their homeland that may not receive them well.
Is there any explanation other than the desperation of a refugee to explain their presence on the ship other than being a refugee? I can't think of one.
Who would board that boat that did not think their lives were in danger by not doing so.
That's the question we should focus on and the answer is obvious.

Thanks Sean. I totally understand what you are saying. I am not able to put my own thoughts out as it would take lot more time and I don't have that time (finding these articles alone cost me time). Also I try my best not to be selective of the articles because that ends up being biased. Letting the readers read all the contents and letting them separate factual and fictional from the articles would be a positive way to get them to make an informed decision.

I still want to see the government explain how people coming altogether in a boat that does not hide where it is going or its "cargo" can be called smuggled.
If they are not hidden at the point of entry they are not being smuggled.
As well, what would be so wrong to take a humanitarian position when it comes to refugees?
The government is not even discussing a humanitarian response and is just whipping up resentment.
Here is a way to stop "human trafficking and smuggling" -- send a navy ship to the Philippines where people were going to board this ship and go pick them up and bring them here ourselves so they don't have to spend $50,000 each to get here. Let them use that money to build a life here. Now that would be economically more sensible for Canada as these people would arrive in a stronger economic position and it would be a humanitarian response.
And while we are on the topic let's produce a sensible humanitarian response to what is happening in Pakistan. Surely we can do better. The fact that other countries are not is sad but not an excuse for Canada.
