I wish they would have issued a Fatwa declaring that attacks by Canada and the US are also attacks on Muslims. But then they would all end up on the no-fly lists that you are such a supporter of, NR.
I actually heard Kevin Sylvester, hosting "Here and Now" this afternoon, interview one of the clergy. I was shocked when he asked "won't some view this as Muslims siding with Western civilization?" Where does the CBC find these idiots.

"Islamic religious ruling, a scholarly opinion and matter of Islamic law. A fatwa is issued by a recognized religious authority in Islam...a fatwa is not necessarily 'binding' on the faithful. They need to supply the evidence from Islamic sources for their opinions and it is not uncommon for scholars to come to differenct conclusions regarding the same issue...
As Muslims, we look at the opinion, the reputation of the person giving it, the evidence given to support it, and then decide whether to follow it or not. When there are conflicting opinions issued by different scholars, we compare the evidence and then choose the opinion to which our God - given conscience guides us.."
Having Muslims attack other Muslims for trying to blow up civilian planes and kill innocent people is exactly what is needed here. Good on these Muslim clerics. Of course, I expect no less from Christian clergy when Christians do the same thing.

Well, I enjoy clergy-bashing as much as the next person but it's more fun when it's accurate. In fact, the Vatican spoke out pretty strongly against the war in Iraq. And not only the Vatican: I'd compile a list if I had the time
