I don't know where to post this, so here it is. There has not been a thread started on this issue since last August so I think it is time to start a new one eh? Also, please excuse my "post and run" habit here at Rabble, but putting even just this much together exhausts me [I am not well].

Here are some quick quotes from an article at Upside Down World [links below] -

Mining Interests Ousted Zelaya over Mining Restrictions

the role of Canadian capital in the coup in Honduras

these Canadian companies contribute to the worsening of corruption in Honduras, the corruption of those who make decisions in this country

Canadian mining companies... were indirectly providing money, ‘under the table,' so that those receiving the money would act in support of the coup perpetrated by the power groups of Honduras.

President Manuel Zelaya [had] said that for the time being there would be no more mining exploitation or exploration of mines in the country. This was a severe blow to those who were trying, at the time, to mine gold out of our territories. The coup was mechanized by the huge transnational companies that had investments in the mining sector in Honduras.

we are saying that this is the new Canadian colonization of Honduras

Health of Locals

the presence of Canadian mining companies has brought destruction and death to our community.

Of the 42,000 inhabitants of Valle de Siria, 80 percent have had their health affected as a consequence of the activities of Goldcorp.

------------------Me again:

Canadian's would be horrified to find out about the abuses that Canadian capital [money] is producing in Honduras. You might have shares of Goldcorp, and therefore you are directly supporting the corruption and pollution caused by Goldcorp, which is a Canadian mining company [did I mention that allready?].

The government of the CPC under PM Harper is certainly not going to raise these issues... so maybe it is up to those of us who can see the immorality of what is going on in the Honduras to try to raise this issue publically. Goldcorp should be STOPPED. They have the backing of Canadians - is that okay with YOU??
