The NDP are ramping up the fight in British Columbia by pointing out that they were the only party to stand up to the Cons, the Libs and the BQ on this issue. Harper’s coalition of parties crammed the HST down the throats of the people of British Columbia so Ontario could do what it wanted with their own HST.
I was vocal at the time of the closure in the House by the Cons and Libs. Now I think the NDP will be able to ride to resentment of the HST onto the Federal scene in British Columbia. The turning point for the NDP in this election was clearly the debates where Layton said Iggy was Harper’s crutch.
In British Columbia the tax payers will be spending over $30 million dollars to attempt to undue the HST. That is $30 million dollars that should not have needed to be spent had this issue been debated properly on the Federal issue. In British Columbia we were told the HST would be good for employment and the economy. We were even told it would lower prices due to a more competitive private sector. This so far has not been the truth across the Province.
It was Harper with Liberal support that evoked closure and the passage of the HST to BC.
