Well the price only seems high ($187.50 per security officer - unknown amount of time per officer) until you compare it to the costs of the G20 this past summer.
Of course, if the tiny tories* at Mohark College were to bring their party leader in for a lecture, I somehow suspect the College would not be trying to recoup the security costs.

"Grace Batchoun, vice president of public relations for CJPME, says Mohawk has imposed the surcharge 16 days after the booking was made - in an attempt to force the lecture to go elsewhere. She said her group is seking the injunction 'out of principle'. 'We're expecting 100 to 125 people and they want to charge us for 8 security guards. It makes no sense,' Batchoun said. 'We really feel this is politically motivated.'"
