Not everyone loves Marineland
If you were planning a trip to Niagara Falls including an excursion to the endlessly advertized amusement park Marineland, you may want to reconsider. Eight former Marineland staff have confirmed to the Toronto Star that conditions for marine mammals at the park are poor, leading to serious and painful health problems for the animals.
I think people who operate and work in zoos should be confined to them.
I know from employees who work there that the same is true of African Lion Safari.
It's all about the money after all. Zoos perform some valuable research and conservation work (at least in some cases) but for-profit let's-exploit-the-animals exhibitions do not.
The Toronto Zoo actually does a lot of good work. I wouldn't conflate for-profit animal shows with legitimate zoos.
Singer wants to stop loving Marineland
Suzie McNeil, the Toronto singer who voiced the Marineland jingle, wants her voice pulled from the ubiquitous commercials.
“I need to get the tag line replaced with ‘all the whales haaaaate... Marineland!’” McNeil tweeted Wednesday.
I remember reading somewhere (can't find it now) that for kids in upstate New York and Ontario, the Marineland jingle is one of the most recognizable songs for kids, as recognizable as any other ubiquitous children's song that they sing in day care or school - some huge percentage of children could sing every lyric to the ad. And heck, I can sing every lyric to that detestably catchy jingle! So it's great that the singer is speaking out about this.
