Breaking the law in BC

http://www.torontosun.com/2014/02/01/ford-shocked-and-embarrassed-after-getting-ticket-for-jaywalking-in-vancouver

BC lowermainland police do get pretty antsy about jaywalking.    There are actually a lot of pedestrians being hit, often due to our weather (rainy, dark nights)    This incident took place near or at the same area that a couple were killed, just in November.

Plus what with the pro sex work policies, and the pro pot smoking policies, there is little else for police to do out this way other than ticket people for jaywalking :)

quizzical

guess they decided to drop the drunk and disorderly charges to jay walking then?

Perhaps the exodus from the Ford campaign is becoming a flood?
I can't imagine many who'd want the job ... except for Doug who seems intent on going down with the ship!!

Ford's former radio show "The City" is going to become "The Province", hosted by Wynne, Hudak, and Horwath (not at the same time, though).  link  It'll be Wynne this upcoming weekend.

Seems Rofo and Dofo are really targeting Tory in an attempt to vilify him.  Be interesting to see how they treat Chow if she enters the race.

For what it's worth ... I think DoFo is now totally losing it: http://m.insidetoronto.com/news-story/4389807-rob-doug-ford-come-out-swi...

“We’re going to see if someone can hold this chief to account who has gone rogue in my opinion,” said Ford. He then suggested a connection between Blair, board member Andy Pringle and mayoral candidate John Tory.“Put the dots together: John Tory, Andy Pringle was his chief of staff, Andy Pringle, the Chief and John Tory are all good buddies,” he said. “I find it very, very suspicious in my opinion that all the dots are connecting as I said they would.”

Tory responded with an email statement, saying, “This is a disgrace. Torontonians deserve better. While mayors across Canada are focused on building transit and attracting jobs, Doug and Rob Ford are focused on fighting the police chief. I am proud to support the Chief. Today’s behaviour underscores why we need new leadership at city hall.”

I'm not a fan of Tory, but at least he has some decency. I'm not a fan of Blair either, but he has a job to do and I don't think he's as devious and malignant as the Ford bros.

Rob Ford’s mayoral run could be partly funded by bobblehead sales, brother Doug muses

AAHH-hahahahahahaha!

Will this be the first politician in history who has to sell dolls for campaign money?

The Ford circus ... the entertainment never stops!

Rob Ford skewered and roasted by Jimmy Kimmel http://m.torontosun.com/2014/03/03/rob-ford-a-little-upset-about-jimmy-k... The American TV star was relentless in his questions and showed four embarrassing videos. He probably should have seen that coming. It should not have been a surprise since Kimmel has been merciless on him and his scandals for months.“He’s a little upset,” Doug Ford admitted over the line from Los Angeles just after the taping the segment. “But he’s okay.”In the background I could hear the mayor saying he was “set up” but did not seem angry or pouting. Rob Ford spewed his campaign slogans and he's all about "customer service". Kimmel had to remind him that no one in LA is his customer. At least he realizes he was skewered.

NorthReport

Rob Ford is such a big star now I'm surprised that Ellen didn't ask Rob Ford to be included in her star-studded Oscar pic.

Alvin Greene suggested selling dolls of himself to pay down the national debt. Does that count?

From the New York Post:

Quote:

Toronto Mayor reminds citizens to ‘turn clocks back’

As the rest of North America prepared to set their clocks ahead one hour for Daylight Savings time, Toronto’s crack-impaired mayor Rob Ford took to Twitter on Saturday night to urge folks to “turn your clocks back.”

Hmm.  "Toronto's crack-impaired mayor".  So much for our international reputation.

Well, bear in mind that this is the New York Post, which will pretty much look for any angle to sensationalize a story.

As I've said elsewhere, I think this is a pretty forgivable mistake, and probably wouldn't attract much attention but for the fact that it was made by Rob Ford.

Impaired? I think they meant "crack-enhanced".

Yeah, I'm with voice of the damned on this one. Let me know when the New York Post criticizes politicians for being war criminals, racists, fascists, homophobes, misogynists, and mass murderers (whoops, those might all be too close to home...). Till then, I think our international reputation is being sullied by far worse actions of Canada than the blunders of Rob Ford.

On Question Period today, Jean Lapierre proudly described Philippe Couillard as "on Red Bull" to imply that he was amped up enough to win. Commercialized stimulant drugs are a point of pride in campaigns. Cocaine, on the other hand, is a sign of moral turpitude.

Brachina

OmG cco, do you really see no difference between red bull and cocaine?!?

wage zombie

What do you think the difference is?

1) Cocaine is not physically addictive. Red Bull may, in fact, be.

2) Red Bull is legal.

At City Council, Ford was the only one to vote against a motion to name a street after Nelson Mandela.  Also, he was the only one who opposed a motion to congratulate Canada's olympic and paraolympic teams.

alan smithee alan smithee's picture

The reason why I will not defend Ford is because he's a law and order conservative who believes drug users are criminals and should be in jail.

Hence,he's a criminal who should be doing time.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Plus, cocaine doesn't contain Red Bull.

OPP says Ford is the victim of extortion in the Brazen 2 investigation. Not the other way around, and won't be pursuing a criminal case against him.

I haven't heard that.  All I've heard is that they haven't received any new evidence, and so will be putting the investigation on hold.

Sgt. Pierre Chamberland wrote:
Since there's no new information or evidence that has been provided to the OPP ... there is nothing for us to do at this point other than to wait and see whether or not any new information is put forward.  If any new information comes forward … we'll assign it to a major case manager.

ETA:  Later I did see in the Metro that the OPP do feel that perhaps an extortion attempt was made on Ford over the video.

I have no use whatsoever for Ford, but when the Toronto police after having all this time to charge him say they are still investigating him, I sometimes wonder if they are playing it both ways. If Ford remains popular in the polls, do nothing. If he starts dropping, charge him in the hopes enough of his vote goes to Tory to beat Olivia. This way the police establishment has a better chance of getting a right-wing government supportive of a strong law and order agenda. Afterall, Chief Blair seemed to be a strong supporter of Ford until it became too awkward to do so.

I do sincerely wish him well with his addiction problems and hope that he is able to overcome them.

Everyone needs to chill though, as the voters will decide his political fate in November.

As well however, this may well be a ploy to get re-elected.

Hopefully though, overcoming his addiction will be his 1st priority.

Good luck in getting better Mr Mayor of Toronto.

That occurred to me too, a play for sympathy, a bit of humility might go over well.
However, it's rumoured that there's a new drunken rant video out too, so maybe his humility is real now.

I was thinking the crack video would be the bigger story, but man, the transcript of this tape is not pretty:

Quote:

Ford: "I'm good. Is that your wife?"

Ford: "Get a shot right now or I'll fucking rape her..."

mark_alfred

There's an audio recording of him on the Sun website.

NorthReport

Also has Ford been getting a pass because he is a white male?

Would a woman, or any person of any colour besides white, still even be the mayor after the disgusting spectacle we have been observing from His Honour the Mayor of Toronto.

I have my doubts.

NorthReport

Haven't been following this stink much, so curious why the police have not charged him?

Is it because he is considered one of them - a right-wing white male

Is it because he is Harper's buddy, so untouchable

Is it because of Police Chief Blair's behaviour?

What is it? Does anyone know?

I did hear the audio recording and read the text that went with it.

I don't think Rob Ford cares if he loses to Olivia Chow because that will be the voters' rejection of a conservative ideology.  If voters choose John Tory, I think Rob Ford will be upset because they will have rejected him personally over conservative-leaning John Tory.

On the tape Ford said he will be voting Green in the provincialelection, another sign he is on drugs.

Charge him with what? You can't prove posession or purchase of crack when you only see the pipe in the videos. He should have been charged with impaired driving long ago though.

NorthReport

As if alcohol is his only problem.

If he wasn't a while male, with powerful people covering his ass, he would have been gone long ago.

I'm surprised they have not removed his children to protect them, as he is obviously unfit to a parent let alone mayor of toronto.

The scumbag media though are loving the feeding frenzy.

WEALTHY white male ...

I'm wondering what Ford Nation is thinking. If he gets rehab'd, they've lost their party animal drinking-druggin buddy idol. He won't be 'one of them' anymore. lol

terrytowel

More bad news for Ford. The new tape has him uttering the N word on tape.

And beating up his friend Lisi.

And smoking crack in his sister's basement.

And verbally violating his wife in public again ...

He pretty much covered it all.

Major meltdown.

So the first crack video and his nefarious associates weren't enough to seal the deal (not to mention his DUI), but this is. I wonder what CBP's "Guidelines for Processing the Rich and Famous" manual looks like.

At City Council first meeting since Rob Ford took leave, Doug Ford sat in the Mayor's seat!

He told reporters he is not ruling out running for Mayor in Rob's place.

Will we ever get rid of the Fords?!

This editorial in today's Globe relects something i am hearing increasingly:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-debate/editorials/where-in-the-worl...

The Globe is calling on Ford to reveal his whereabouts. It is not explicitly doubting that he is in rehab but that is the clear undertone.

Ford has been so mendacious about his drug use that many peole doubt his word that he in in rehab.

I personally find it remarkable that he was able to find a place in rehab in Chicago (or elesewhere in the US) within 12 hours of when the new video and tape emerged last week. I suppose you can but anything, but my expeience helping clients (even those with money) get into a treatment facility suggests this takes much longer.

It is perhaps significant that Doug Ford has a house in Chicago. Given Rob's denial about his problems it is not inconceivable that he simply planned to lie low there for a month and then claim he had been through a program and was now cured.

Then we have this:

http://www.cp24.com/news/ford/minnan-wong-says-he-has-spoken-to-mayor-re...

In patient drug programs often have strict restrictions on the number of telephone calls a patient is allowed - sometimes just one per week. Why would Ford be using a precious call to speak to Minnan -Wong who is one of hid chief critics?

It is not surprising that some city councilors are asking for proof that he is in a treatment program:

True. However, you can get a faster referral if the patient is already known to the clinic.

I'm with Gord Perks on this one: it's not our business whether he's in rehab. Also, the more people poke around, the more it fuels that whole family's martyr complex.
