I was a grumpy old bastard this morning until I got a morphine shot. Now everything is rosy again. Innocent

By the way, BB is still alive at 88..

Boom Boom is 88? Wow, he could have fooled me. He posted a picture of himself hauling wood (or something) on his snowmobile around a year ago, he looked a hale and hearty 55-60 ish. Sock it to 'em, Boom Boom.

Gotta love that morphine when you need it. When I was in hospital after surgery a few years  back they had me rigged up with a morphine pump so I could administer it myself, it was of course rigger so you could not overdose whether by accident or design, but it was a relief to know you didn't have to wait for a nurse to come relieve you from agony.

janfromthebruce

Boom Boom I'm reading along and keeping you in my thoughts. Chemo is so difficult and do the meds and pain relief for sure.

All the best to you BoomBoom!
Your getaway's delayed a bit, but hold onto thatthought

Good luck to you, Boom Boom. You don't know me as I rarely post here, but I am always glad to follow everything that you write. I admire your posts, because you are able to convey a natural, evolved humanity even on the internet where that is not usual. I'm about your age, but a little older than you, I think, and have gone through some of the same things. politically and spiritualy. Now though I contrast our lives. You seem to be a highly socially skilled person living in a remote place where most people usually speak a language that is not your first language. I'm an introverted person, living in the centre of the centre of the universe where I've lived all my life. From this vantage point, I want to thank you for letting me see an honest person.

Thanks - you made my day, and it's been hell here today.

I don' know if I can stay on the coast, though - I'm quite waek from chemo, arthritis, and surgery expected in a few weeks.

But your kind works encourage me no end.

WillC

Thanks for making the effort to answer. Please let us all know how you're doing.

Today has been hell, for starters.Frown

A hell of a night.  Nurses were working me over form 10 pm to 2 am, and then i started with the vomitibg and diarrrhea. Just awful. The stomach bile really burns my lips. Now my heart rate is down after all of this.

Hang in there, Boom Boom. I'm hoping you'll get a few days reprieve soon. <hugs>

Boom Boom Boom Boom's picture

I think the chemo is finished for the weekend, going to try to keep some food down tonight - for the first time in four days. Strangely, I don't have much appetite.

lagatta

I'm not surprised, that is so exhausting. I was just thinking that I hoped you'd get some respite.

WillC

I hope the weekend gave you some respite, Boom Boom. As we all know by now, getting over sixty isn't for the fainthearted.

Boom Boom Boom Boom's picture

I caused a lot of drama today. Blacked out due to a number of factors - intense pain (maybe from an infection?)  on my right side from head to shoulder, an over heated room, plain fatigue and stress - and hunger. Haven't been able to eat a meal in 5 - 6 days due to a constricted throat.

I'll be seeing various specialists starting tomorrow. I'm  told this is almost normal for AML patients.

One big shot of morphine later, everything's coming up roses. Smile

Sineed

If I lived closer I could make you some bland high-protein smoothies.

Day 17. Almost halfway I'd guess.

lagatta

Did you get a bit of a respite? Indeed, they should be giving you something easy to swallow and relatively bland, as even tasty food can seem repulsive under the nauseating effects of such a drug regimen.

Boom Boom Boom Boom's picture

Chemo stopped last Friday I think - and then side effects appeared -loss of appetite, nausean, vomiting, diarrhea - the whoe nine yards. Just had my sixth  or seventh CATscan.

WillC

I've noticed you haven't posted on Babble since Monday, Boom Boom. I know you're going through a  lot now, and perhaps, for good reason, don't feel like getting into it. Just continue being aware that there are many here who are wishing you all the best.

Catchfire Catchfire's picture

Hi Boom Boom! I just noticed this thread -- happy to hear you're showing the chemo your best side: the humorous one (that Blind Melon Jefferson tune is one of my faves). Hope you're handling the side effects with characteristic gusto, and hoping you'll post again here soon!

It is tough, Can only type with my left hand because of all the IV lines.

Unionist

Welcome back, lefty!

Get over this bout and come back here. There's a big dose of sincerity and humour that's been missing from some of these threads in the last little while. We need you, my friend.

Catchfire Catchfire's picture

Thanks for taking the time to type in, Boom Boom! What Unionist said.

MegB

What everyone said. Non-stop nausea and diarrhea are SO awful, almost makes pain seem like a walk in the park. But, you know it is temporary even if it feels like a lifetime ago when you didn't feel like this. My thoughts are with you my friend. Wish I were close enough to visit with you, but when you're on the other side of this, and can go on your road trip, please do consider visiting southwestern Ontario. Tommy Paine and I would be delighted to have your company for a few days.

pookie

Thinking of you, Boom Boom, and sending hugs and positive energy.

Hi Boom Boom!

I think of you always, and haven't been writing you private messages because I don't want you to feel you have to answer them. I guess you don't know whether you are going home immediately after this course of treatment. It might be better if you could stay in a respite residence, dunno if the Baby Jeebuz Hospital has one of those (sometimes they are funded by cancer and other medical charities).

Boom Boom Boom Boom's picture

I don't know what the long term plans for are here other than to get cured asap and back home again.

lagatta

Obviously. I was thinking of short-term plans, or battle-plan. Whether it is better to go home if you have two courses of treatment, or stay in Québec City and relax.

Hugs...chemo sucks!

shartal@rogers.com

I hope you are better.

Anyone heard from Boom Boom? I hope all is as well as possible...

Timebandit Timebandit's picture

He hasn't been on Facebook for a couple of days now. He was feeling pretty tough on his last communication.

Caissa

Boom Boom's latest Facebook status: "I am too tired and too shaky to do any typing.  So any time I will get someone typing for me I will send some news.   Thank you."

lagatta

Which is of course not so easy in Qc City, where people who can WRITE in English are rather rare, as opposed to being able to communicate.

Thanks, Caissa!

Caissa

Boom Boom's latest Facebook post: I'm okay. I think I might be here another month.

lagatta

Well, that sounds a lot better, but just hope things do improve... Thanks, Caissa!

Caissa

Boom Boom is home.

Bacchus

YaY!!!!

pookie

I'm so glad to hear that.

Hurray!

Boom Boom! Happy holidays! Get healthy and strong!

Great news, Boom Boom! Hope you have some help with the snow shoveling.

It is with profound and great sadness that I report that Canon Tony "Boom Boom" Hitsman died on December 18. My understanding is that he will be buried in his beloved Kegaska. My life was enriched by knowing Tony and it now has a hole in it. RIP, Tony.

Oh my God no. What a sweet and gentle and beautiful soul. You brought so many smiles to my face and I'm in tears now. Rest in peace, dear friend.

janfromthebruce
