babble is rabble.ca's discussion board but it's much more than that: it's an online community for folks who just won't shut up. It's a place to tell each other — and the world — what's up with our work and campaigns.
SJ, we also need to create an environment where people, especially marginalized people or groups with a history of being oppressed, feel safe. Babble has never been flush with FN people's, POC, feminists, members of the LGBT community, etc., but the babble demographic is increasingly composed of those with privilege. That's a huge problem, because diversity of community and the freedom of opinion all of that implies, isn't about allowing a privileged class to enjoy even more privilege by allowing statements that offend the oppressed and marginalized. It's about creating a safe and inclusive community. If that means that some opinions or language of the privileged get censured, so be it.
I don't have any issue here, so long as my privileges remain intact. [/kidding] Actually I think it'd be real swell if Fidel were to see things in that light and perhaps take up with some new and improved phraseology. I mean, if I can get over being traumatized by Writer's interventions here and there, and ultimately recognize she was being correct (most of the time)...I can't see why someone with Fidel's smarts couldn't appreciate a wider analysis of the concerns swirling around him.

The reason these marginalised people or groups are not attracted to babble is because babble does not allow their voices to be heard. Instead, new members from these groups are oppressed, bullied and hounded out by the reigning orthodoxy that talks the talk but fails to walk the walk of its high-minded principles.
The privileged quickly tire of any attempt to listen and understand if the new poster does not quickly conform to the reigning ideology and punish such heresy with the very oppression they say they stand against.

Speak and thank you.
Yes, over & over.
Repeat, rinse...
If I ever go fer real, I'd like to think it would just entail a cessation of coming here, all quiet like the recent Gaian removal solution...except for under my own steam if at all possible. Fidel is likely to re-emerge here or at enmasse. He's always managed to demonstrate that he's not one to be kept down for long.
I'd kinda like it if Fidel's flouncing and suspension threads weren't taken over by spam Please....and thanks.

You're quite the clever one yourself. You've managed to spam this entire thread nearly to the brim with nocturnal inanity.
Seems like 46 posts to one thread in barely more than 24 hours is a lot. It risks crowding others out.
Many of the posts almost make light of the situation and don't seem to be anything to do with the topic. Perhaps I'm missing something.
The point is that if Fidel is gone from here, sadly the place has lost an important contributor who will be sorely missed.

I very much hope so and as well that you stay SJ...
Long thread.
