It's fundraising time for rabble!

Hey babblers! rabble.ca has just kicked off its annual fundraising campaign and we're reaching out to our community of supporters and contributors to make this the best fundraising campaign yet. You might not know this but rabble gets nearly 40 per cent of its operating budget from individual donors, people like you. When you come to the site you know you won't be hit with a paywall, endless advertising and click bait. You'll get the best in non-corporate independent media, supporting progressive social change (something we can all get behind). rabble.ca has been bringing you indie media for over 17 years and will continue to do so, and grow as an organization, with your help.

If you're already a monthly donor, thank you! Maybe you can think about increasing your monthly donation, the best way to support our day to day operations. If you aren't currently a rabble donor, please consider a one-time donation or, if you're able, a small monthly donation. It doesn't have to be much, but it'll be a huge help.

I'd also like to encourage babblers who don't already receive our rabble newsletters to do so here.

Bump!

MegB

Bump. Again.

Martin N.

I'm willing to be a significant donor if you dont ban me, Meg. Socialism requires Capitalism to pay its way.

If you require proof, just listen to the crickets accompanying your erstwhile pleas.

I'm a good solid progressive that understands that growing the economy is the only way to fund socialist initiatives. The reigning babble cabal is pissed at me for asking hard questions that they dont want raised and they prefer to hide behind you to have me banned.

and, look on the bright side, you have a real, functional choice here. Thwart the forces of orthodoxy and earn funds, build trust, make allies or fall victim to the reigning cabal, do their bidding, be their minion.

6079_Smith_W

Well I donated again, right after the initial call.

Don't mistake not wanting to let everyone know about it as indifference, or rejection.

As it says up in the OP 40 percent of the budget comes from individual donors (not the same as capitalism) so clearly some people find it worthy of financial support.

Ah, a good solid progressive who doesn't give a shit about Palestinians, parrots the Apartheid regime and thinks supporting pipelines is necessary to building an economy. That's pretty funny. Nice try with the cabal thing though. Yes, rabble is a group of secret elitist dogmatists who are running the left into the ground by silencing your obvious brilliance. Why on earth would you want to support such a horrible organization.

Thank you! I keep bumping the post because it's my job during fundraising to pester people relentlessly. The Cabal and I salute you.

While I do have some concerns with the context of your scolding, in the interests of common understanding and with suitable humble grovelling at your absolute authority, I shall limit my remarks to the fact that while you (and the coterie of smirking tattletales eager to see the heretic at the stake) are entitled to assume the mantle of progressivism, you are  not so endowed to deny it to others based on your political biases.

That the leftists are running themselves into the ground is a dynamic that nothing to with either progressivism or myself and should not be confused as such. I believe in the basic tenets of progressivism and differ in the methods of achieving its goals, not the goals themselves.

A "horrible organisation" are your words, I prefer a "work in progress" that is in need of my brilliance to assist in halting its trajectory toward the ground by challenging lazy thinking that relys on generalisations and non-sequiturs to scold those who dare stray from the reigning orthodoxy. While I agree with babble policy that the tenets of progressivism are not open to debate, some license is assumed by the reigning cabal of self-appointed busybodies  to include their hobby horses in such sacrosanct custody at the expense of open debate.

I believe it is less fawning to merely state my perceived "brilliance" as a dogged determination to see the truth prevail and to stand guard against any encroachment on equality of opportunity.

I am and always have stood ready to speak truth to power, no matter the cost. Whether you like it or not you need me here - if only to goad the parsimonious into sharing more than their opinions.

Much like the struggle between good and evil I await the results of your struggle between the Canadian propensity for generosity of spirit and surrendering to your and your grinning chimps' biases.

So are you going to make that donation you pledged?

In negotiations with higher authority at present. I can only hope a sense of fair play and a limited capacity for deficit spending will play in my favour.

Mobo2000

I am becoming a monthly donor tonight.   The free books are just the icing on the cake.   Rabble has been upping it's game lately, and I'm glad to be on board.

6079_Smith_W

Well nobody has canned your ass, so it seems pretty straightforward to me.

Not that there are any consequences beyond your good reputation for not honouring pledges, but considering the rest of us have had to put up with this grandstanding about how important you are, maybe you might want to finish the weasel dance and put your money where your mouth is.

You have some jingle to go with that jingo, matey? Just be grateful they dont charge you by the word.

Weasel dance? I like it. No,no thats a Meercat dance Im thinking of.... but I still like it. How much you kick in, Smith? Socially awkward question, Smith, but lets set some parameters. I assume for me there will be right-wing-capitalist-pig surtax, A denier penalty and an environmental levy plus a one-time fee just for allowing the asshole on the premises?

6079_Smith_W

No need to play the martyr. Just honour your pledge.

And if I need to repeat I didn't say anything about it until you pushed the point by claiming the response to rabble's fundraising call was "crickets". So it is none of your damned business what I donated. And I'm not asking you how much either, but if you are going to make a big production number out of it at least ante up.

Martin N.

Ok,ok. With all due respect, Smith, I do not recall your name being mentioned during my offer of not a pledge but rather being a significant contributor. I made the offer to Meg B and, in careful consideration of her response denoting my good self as a leftist scofflaw, nearly a henchperson of Apartheid and an environmental ne'er-do-well, I have marked her down as undecided and am predisposed to await the dispensation of absolute authority.

If I remember her intentions correctly, I could leave of my own accord or be assisted by being banned.

As a concilliatory gesture to you while we await said dispensation, Smith, I have made a contribution in appreciation of epaulo's dedication to environmental activism. Without such activism it is doubtful we would now have the Oceans Protection Plan.

As far as making a big production number out of this, is it too much to ask that you capitalise said BPN? Thank you for your support.

Just checked back... I've been a monthly donor since 2012. Time to see if I can up my amount. Rabble deserves support.

No worries. I donated fifty bucks in your name last night to keep Smith quiet. Thats the good news. The not-quite-as-good news is that I paid it out of KML dividends. :€)

Martin N.

Alllrighty then, I suppose silence is the best I can hope for. Smith, I hereby donate a boat buck in coin of the realm since you find it icky to talk numbers. I also stand ready to assist in future in case epaulo and jerrym use up all the bandwidth or whatever techy stuff babble has to pay the telecom bandits for.

Do you need a confirmation number?

6079_Smith_W

Nope. The really good news is you seem to be doing yeoman's service keeping this thread bumped up.

I'm sure the cabal appreciates it.

Is this the beginnings of an 'alllrighty' hostile takeover Martin N ?

No, no hostility on my part, NDPP, but I detect a definite chill coming from the other side of the ideological barrenland. Passive/aggressiveness, shunning and a bit of sulking among the more radical elements that absolute authority wasnt administered with extreme prejudice.

I wasn't aware that Higher Authority not only condones rogue actions by the more excitable elements of the community but actively supports them. I must proselytise for stern adherence to babble policy by all members, not just those of us who sit below the salt (presently consisting of 1). Rather than a takeover, its more of a take notice.

Yes, it's quite a collection of contradictions.  Enjoy the ride for as long as it lasts and help yourself to the baloney too. There's lots...

As long as it lasts? Fortunately my only social skill happens to be bribery. Unfortunately, however, the ecumenical distaste for your humble heretic will last long after the donations are spent as will the resentment engendered by the pecuniary need to accept such donations rather than standing on (admittedly shaky) principle and punting your humble servant.

Baloney? Very droll.

Martin N.

If any others have noticed, the active topics between Oct 3 and 6 are missing, perhaps due to the sport spammer or because rabble doesnt have the funds to maintain the site properly.

Obviously, talk of pecuniary necessity is an anathema to well reared progressives, almost as much as contact with a heretic or Gaiiae forbid, spending your own money to support progressive causes rather than hectoring for other peoples' money being spent on your behalf.

Poverty aside, the very fact that rabble is always in such dire straits indicates that its most ardent devotees should stand and deliver.

Martin N.

It is very revealing that rabble makes no acknowledgement of donations. No $ thermometer or clock, no rarara, nothing. The cover story is most likely that lefties are much too polite to engage in crass money talk but the truth, I suspect is that revealing the amount of funds collected is simply too embarassing.

Babblers are convinced that everyone is entitled to their opinion, as long as someone else is paying the tab. All hat and no cattle. Freedom isnt 'free' and you freeloaders need to pay up. The MSM needs to be challenged and rabble needs funding.

Ok I made a one time donation 0r $200 MegB.

For the posters here who are also part of a union, at your next monthly meeting or better yet if your union has a PAC (political action committee), at the next PAC meeting, vocalize the importance of independent pro labor media!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rabble/babble is pro labor and a good fit worthy of support! Unions must support!

Forward a motion to donate money to Rabble. If you don't, corporations win :(

If you want help in wording your motion, jusk ask.

Great rant and contribution, WWWTT!! Thank you!

As far as I know, my union still supports rabble - but I guess I'll have to go and check now.

Rabble - may the funds be with you!!
