NJ teen charged with child porn for posting explicit pictures of her self
Now this fourteen year old girl faces potentially 17 years in jail and being required to register as a sex offender.
TRENTON, New Jersey — 14-year-old New Jersey girl has been accused of child pornography for posting nearly 30 explicit nude pictures of herself on MySpace.com — charges that could force her to register as a sex offender if convicted.
The case comes as prosecutors nationwide pursue child pornography cases resulting from kids sending nude photos to one another over cell phones and e-mail.
Legal experts, though, could not recall another case of a child pornography charge resulting from a teen's posting to a social networking site.
MySpace would not comment on the New Jersey investigation, but the company has a team that reviews its network for inappropriate images.
In the New Jersey case, the Passaic County Sheriff's Office investigated and discovered the girl had posted the "very explicit" photos of herself, sheriff's spokesman Bill Maer said Thursday.
"We consider this case a wake-up call to parents," Maer said. The girl posted the photos because "she wanted her boyfriend to see them," he said.
The teen, whose name has not been released because of her age, was charged with possession and distribution of child pornography. She was released to her mother's custody.
If convicted of the distribution charge, she would be forced to register with the state as a sex offender. She also could face up to 17 years in jail, though such a stiff sentence is unlikely.
The latest on the case in the New Jersey news is that because the girl is a minor, the matter will be handled in family court and she will not be facing jail time or, although this is not as definite, required to register as a sex offender.
At least I hope he made [link to porn removed] I really don't understand these people! And I wish they'd all get to jail. I don't need reasons for that I'm sure. There are so many women interested in pornography..and they choose children.. and raping. They say women can't be satisfied, what about men?
Why are you still here?
She's not.
Okay, I'm confused. I thought the point of going after child pornography was the exploitation and abuse of children, which I completely agree with. Where is the exploitation and abuse here? Is it possible to exploit and abuse oneself in this context? Would she have been guilty of anything had she just gone over to her boyfriend's place and done it in person?
I understand that one of the conditions of sentenceing is that she will not be permitted to be closer than 200 yards from herself.
many *snerkable* moments today.
One of the differences I notice about Canada and the USA is that I get mailings, very frequently, informing me of a sex offender who has moved in nearby. I'm not sure what these are supposed to do. Who can memorize all those faces and names? The descriptions of the crimes are extremely cryptic.
The pictures are in black and white, with dark fonts. I find it makes people look blacker.
I get mailings, very frequently, informing me of a sex offender who has moved in nearby... You've got to stop moving, man!
...The descriptions of the crimes are extremely cryptic.
Denial is not river in Egypt.
(just kidding)
